Save 20% At Ulta And

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 30, 2010

Did you get the latest Ulta sales ad in your Sunday newspaper?  As you’ll often find, there was a 20% off coupon on the front page.  As usual, the fine print stated that it “excludes salon services, fragrance, hair artistry brands, prestige cosmetics including Bare Escentuals, prestige skincare, Dermalogica, Clarisonic, Philosophy and Benefit Brow Bars.”  But, it is allowing you to use the coupon on products that were featured in the ad that would normally be excluded.  There are a few items from Bare Escentuals, Stila, Tarte, Smashbox, and Too Faced in the ad that you can use the coupon on.  If you didn’t get the ad in your paper, you can go to and print a coupon out for yourself.  Just click the “Print Store Coupon” button towards the lower middle of the page (when you click it, a one-time use coupon is generated so I can’t link directly to the coupon).  There is also a code on the homepage that you can use for online shopping.  Happy Shopping!

Smashbox Masquerade Fall Color Collection – OMG Deal At QVC

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 28, 2010

Sorry, I know I’m going crazy with the QVC related posts today, but there is just so much!  Were you thinking about picking up the Smashbox Masquerade Fall Color Collection?  If so, you may want to check out the offer from QVC.  They have the 4 piece set priced $60.96!  The 4 piece set includes:

  • 0.10 fl oz lip enhancing gloss in Disguise, a golden pink shade
  • 0.22 fl oz liquid liner and lash overlay in Teal, a metallic teal shade
  • 0.211 oz Fusion Soft Lights mirrored compact in Illusion; champagne, soft gold, and rose gold shades
  • 0.47 oz eye palette mirrored compact in Masquerade; matte soft peach, shimmering black plum, matte taupe, metallic khaki, shimmering gold, bronze, metallic cabernet, shimmering navy, and matte bone shades

Let me just tell you, the savings in picking up this collection versus picking up each piece individually is insane.  Let’s break it down.  The lip gloss = $18, the liquid liner = $19, the Fusion Soft Lights = $32 , and the Masquerade Eye Palette = $35…that’s a grand total of $104!!!  It is rare that you are able to pick up pieces from a current collection at such a low price.  You usually have to wait until next season and then pick up last seasons pieces to get that price.

The feature price of $60.96 is only good today, August 28th, until midnight (ET).  After that the price will go up to $67, which is still a deal.

Have you been eyeing anything from the Smashbox Masquerade Fall Color Collection?

    Smashbox Finishing Touches 3-piece Collection

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 28, 2010

So let me just tell you, I was so excited about this next product, but now I’m disappointed.  Recall that last week Smashbox was the Today’s Special Value on QVC.  During their shows, they also introduced a few new products, many of which are exclusive to QVC until next year.  One those products was the Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner.  But I held off because in the advance sale email I received for the Smashbox TSV, there was also a blurb and picture about the Smashbox Finishing Touches 3-piece Collection and how it would be available at a Try Me Price August 28.  The Finishing Touches 3-piece Collection features the Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner in Gunmetal, the Brow Tech To Go, and a lip enhancing gloss in Allure.  I have used the original Smashbox Brow Tech product for years so I was also interested in trying out the Brow Tech To Go.  So that settled it, I would wait for the Finishing Touches Collection and get both products at a lower price.  I think I’m glad I waited, but for the wrong reasons.

Last night I went on to to place my order for the Finishing Touches Collection.  I was ecstatic to see that the Try Me Price was only $29.16.  An unbelievable price given that the Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner is $19.98 and the Brow Tech To Go is $23.76.  On the right hand side of the page was a link to the Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner.  I wanted to check and see if the item offered in the Finishing Touchs Collection was full-sized.  So I clicked over the individual eyeliner page and my heart just dropped.  With 30 reviews, the Smashbox Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner had an average rating of 2 out of 5 stars.  22 people gave it 1 star.  Reviewers were listing complaints of the powder flaking off of their eyes and onto their cheeks.  One woman said she had racoon eyes shortly after using the product.  “Messy” seems to be the word of choice in the reviews.

What a let down.  I was so excited when I saw this product being presented on QVC last week.  Right now, I’m on the fence about ordering this product.  Although the Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner is most certain to be a let down, I still want to get my hands on the Brow Tech To Go.  Instead of just buying one product, for about $6 more I get 3.  But God knows I need another lip gloss like I need a hole in the head.  Decisions, decisions.

Have you tried Smashbox Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner?  How about the Brow Tech To Go?

QVC Clarisonic Mia On-The-Go Sonic Skin Cleansing System Today’s Special Value

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 28, 2010

It’s Beauty’s Best Day on QVC. 26 full hours devoted solely to beauty products.  So of course the Today’s Special Value is a beauty product, and let me just tell you, it is a goodie.  Drumroll please…(insert rumbling drum roll in your head now)…it’s the Clarisonic Mia On-The-Go Sonic Skin Cleansing System.  The retail value is $186, but the Today’s Special Value price is only $119.82 and that includes shipping.  Plus, it’s available on 3 easy pay so you’ll only pay $39.94 a month of 3 months.

The Clarisonic Mia On-The-Go Sonic Skin Cleansing System comes with the Clarisonic Mia cleansing unit and pLink charger, one sensitive skin brush, one normal skin brush, 1 oz. gentle hydro cleanser, 1 oz. nourishing care cleanser, and 1 oz refreshing gel cleanser.  There are 8 colors to choose from (although, blue is already on waitlist).

I have the Mia and I absolutely love it.  I had always wanted a Clarisonic for years before I finally got it, but let’s be honest, back when there was only the original Clarisonic I could not afford the couple of hundred dollars price tag.  Then the Clarisonic people got smart and started adding smaller, but more affordable pieces.  I finally picked up about 2 years ago when it was a TSV on QVC and available for 5 easy pays.  It was closer to $175 when I picked it up so $119 is an absolute steal.

I’ve said before that I’ve been genetically blessed with pretty good skin.  Not flawless, but really not that bad at all.  Even so, I saw amazing results after I started using the Clarisonic.  My skintone evened out and I started to see less redness on my face.  My face was also a lot brighter.  My skin also got amazingly soft.    I have been using it almost everyday since I got it with my Purity Made Simple cleanser and now cannot imagine life without it.

Now if you’re not familiar with the Clarisonic Mia, know that  it is smaller than the original.  Personally, I like that it’s smaller because it’s a lot easier to use on certain areas of your face.  And obviously, it was made with travel in mind given that it’s name includes “On-The-G0”.

The Clarisonic Mia (and any Clarisonic for that matter) can be used with just about every skin cleanser.   You don’t have to use the product that comes with it.  Like I said, I use mine with Purity Made Simple and have also tried it with Olay products.  The brush heads last between 3 and 4 months.

Apparently, QVC only offers the Clarisonic Mia when it’s a TSV.  I didn’t know that.  So today is the only day that it will be available from QVC or QVC until the next time it is a Today’s Special Value.  Oh, and just for reference, Sephora offers the Clarisonic Mia for $149, but you only get 1 1 oz. cleanser and 1 brush head.  So clearly the $119 price tag for a much larger kit on QVC is a steal.

Do you have a Clarisonic?  Will you be picking one up?  Think its a waste of money?

BAND-AID Brand Bandages By Cynthia Rowley

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 26, 2010

Yesterday it was Diane Von Furstenberg hospital gowns, today it’s BAND-AIDs by Cynthia Rowley.  You read that correctly.  Cynthia Rowley has teamed up with BAND-AID to create a limited edition collection of designer Band-Aids.  Each $10 tin contains 20 assorted designer Band-Aids featuring designs by the fabulous Cynthia Rowley.  One dollar from the sale of each tin will go to Design Ignites Change, an organization that engages high school and college students in design and architecture projects that address social issues in their own communities.  The designs are pretty snazzy.  Remember when you were little and your Mom or Dad would buy Band-Aids with your favorite characters on them so you would fake an injury just to wear a Hello-Kitty Band-Aid?  These Cynthia Rowley Band-Aids may induce an adult version of that scenario!

So, who thinks that the next announcement is going to be hospital bedding by Ralph Lauren?  Too funny!

Stila Girl Travel Palettes – Trendsetting In Tokyo Is Now Available!

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 26, 2010

***Trendsetting In Tokyo has been officially released and is now available at!  I’m re-posting my original post of the contents of this new Stila Girl Travel Palette below.***

Stila has introduced a series of palettes called Stila Girl Travel Palettes. A new limited edition palette will be introduced each month through November based on one of the five Stila Girl’s travels. Each Travel Palette will feature four eye shadows and one convertible color. And the best part…Each palette will only cost $10!!! I mean, you can’t even get four eye shadows and a convertible color for $10 at a drugstore! The price is ridiculous (in a good way). The third palette, Trendsetting In Tokyo, has already been released on

Trendsetting In Tokyo is inspired by a Stila Girl’s trip to Tokyo. It features eye shadows in Sake (beige shimmer), Kawai (pink shimmer), Shibuya (blue shimmer), and Peace Sign (black shimmer) and Convertible Color in Sakura. Unlike Pretty In Paris, I’m excited about this palette. I’m loving that there are some bolder colors in this palette and I’m loving that they are shimmer shades. Stila did a fabulous job in selecting colors for this palette that scream Tokyo. They definately make me think of the vibrant lights, parties, and animation that you think about when you hear “Tokyo.” I think you’re going to be able to create a lot of different looks given the fact that all of the shades are very different from each other (unlike Pretty In Paris which was just an onslaught of brown, if you ask me). If you haven’t used Stila eye shadows before, they are buildable. By that I mean, you can apply them lightly for a sheerer look or layer them for a bolder look.

Now, if you’re absolutely jonesing for Trendsetting In Tokyo and want it right now from, be prepared because shipping is going to run you $10!!! That’s even more rediculous than the $7.95 that Sorry Urban Outfitters, you’re crazy if you think I’m essentially going to pay double for Trendsetting In Tokyo. It won’t be too long before you will be able to get Trendsetting In Tokyo directly from Stila and Sephora. Oh, and I’ve looked around to see if I could find a coupon code for free shipping or something at Urban Outfitters, but sadly there are none to be found. Feel free to post if anyone finds something!
