The Body Shop Sucks!!!

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 30, 2010

Let me just tell you, I am so done with The Body Shop.  I will NEVER place another order with them either online at or at an actual The Body Shop store location.

After having just spent over 30 minutes waiting for an operator at The Body Shop’s customer service number, I was informed that once you place an order you can not modify or cancel the order.  It’s not even ready for shipment yet, but I can’t cancel it.  I told the woman that I don’t understand why it is I can’t cancel the order, especially since I know that all of my order except for the $5 bag is out of stock and will be cancelled anyways.  She said that unfortunately they don’t have a computer system that tracks their inventory live nor do they have a computer system that allows for cancellations.  Um, what?  I asked her if they are using the very first computer system ever created to which she responded she was unsure.

The Body Shop is well aware of this problem.  There are multiple complaints on their Facebook page as well as complaints on a number of message boards and blogs, both beauty and deal seeking sites.

I am at an utter loss for words.  I am so done with The Body Shop.  I don’t care how great of a sale or product you try to lure me in with.  It’s not really that great of a sale or a product if I can’t get it now is it?

So I leave you with these parting words…THE BODY SHOP SUCKS!!!

Problems With Order

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 29, 2010

So who else placed orders with today, hoping to take advantage of their awesome sale?  Have you received shipping confirmation yet?  I placed my order this morning and still haven’t received shipping confirmation.  Word around the web is that a lot of products are sold out, even though it doesn’t state that on  People are reporting that they are getting their shipping confirmation to find that most of the items that they ordered have been cancelled due to them being out of stock.  Many are even reporting that the only item that was in stock in the order was the $5 bag that you had to buy to take advantage of the deal.  Words like “scam” are being tossed around.

I decided to give The Body Shop a call to see what was going on with my order.  I was shocked by what I learned.  Apparently, The Body Shop is using the very first computer system ever created to run their company.  I was informed by the operator that they don’t have a real-time inventory system and therefore won’t know whether the item you ordered is in stock until it is being packaged for shipment.  Um, what?  Is this really a large company with multiple outlets that cater to multiple countries?  So basically this woman couldn’t tell me whether or not the items I had ordered were in stock or not.  She just kept saying, “They may not be in stock when your order finally gets to the warehouse for shipment.”  How does that help me at all?

To be fair, the woman that I spoke with was very nice and apologetic that she couldn’t give me more information.  I told her that I was well aware that she was not responsible for the computer system they were using and their lack of inventory control, but unfortunately she was going to have to take my criticism and make sure it got to who it needed to get to.  She assured me that she understood my frustration and would be sure to give detailed notes of my complaints to the proper person.  Whether or not that will happen is unknown.  I told her that she will receiving a bunch of calls from unhappy customers in the coming days as I’m sure there will be many pissed off customers when they find out that they will only be receiving the $5 bag and nothing else.

The Body Shop, get with the times!  Get a real-time inventory tracker.  When I place an order on other websites and an item ends up selling out before I check out, the computer tells me that!

Oh, and let me just tell you, I have seen multiple complaints that the Peach shower gel is one of the items that no one is receiving in their shipments due to it being out of stock. website still says that this item is in stock!  How is that even possible???  You know the item is out of stock and yet you allow your website to still take orders for it?

I’m curious to see what my shipping confirmation notice will have in store for me tomorrow.  If a majority of my order is no longer available, I will seriously question whether or not I will make another purchase from The Body Shop.

Anyone else have problems with their orders?  Have you received your shipping confirmation yet?  Please, let us know!

HUGE Sale At The Body Shop

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 29, 2010

You may have already seen that is having they annual after Christmas sale. I wasn’t overly impressed by any of the deals and had the willpower to say “I have enough bath and body products!”  Well that all went out the window now that The Body Shop has made their sale even sweeter.  First, if you buy a re-usable Bag For Life bag for only $5, you receive 50% off pretty much your entire order (some exclusions include gift sets, charitable items, gift cards, and Love Your Body cards).  The Body Shop has their Originals shower gels and lotions on sale for $3.  Buy the bag and they are only $1.50 each!  Select body butters are on sale for $10.  But the bag and they are only $5.  Watermelon lotion here I come!  Second, use coupon / promo code FACEBOOK70 to receive FREE SHIPPING on orders of $25 or more.  I picked up 13 items for $26.  What a steal!

The buy a bag promo is only good today and tomorrow (December 29th and 30th) or while supplies last.  It doesn’t say whether this promotion is also going on in stores.  Happy Shopping!

Stila Adventurous In Aspen Travel Girl Palette

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 29, 2010

I’m finally getting around to a review for the latest Stila Travel Girl Palette – Adventurous In Aspen.  If you recall, Adventurous In Aspen features four eye shadows in Snow Angel (shimmering heather gray), Icicles (blue), Glisten (shimmering gold), and Ajax (black with gold sparkle) and a Convertible Color in Rosy (rose-pink).  The colors looked stunning online, but how did they do in person?

I have to admit, at first I wasn’t as blown away with these colors as I thought I would be once I got them.  But after playing with them for a while I am actually quite smitten.  With the exception of Snow Angel, the eye shadows are darker shades.  But with a light hand, you can apply them so they appear to be more sheer.  I will say that even though they are darker colors, they are very buildable.  Snow Angel has the most shimmer, but the Glisten and Ajax shades have a very nice shimmer as well.  The Icicles shade is the most matte of the group.  It does come off a little chalkier than the other shades.

In The Sun

I know the point of these palettes is to use the colors together to create a complete look.  But I have been using the darker shades of shadow from this palette with similar lighter shades from other palettes, kits, singles, etc. that I already had.  The pairings have created some very pretty smoky eyes.

As for the Convertible Color, I have to say I was a little disappointed with this one.  Usually I’m a huge fan of Stila Convertible Colors, but this one left a lot to be desired.  First, this CC seemed more oily than others.  I don’t know if you can see it, but if you look at the first picture you can see what looks like condensation on the CC.  When I first tried to swatch the colors the CC color did not appear.  The only thing that was left on my hand was a clear oily residue.  But after a few tries, the Rosy color did start to appear.  It’s almost like I had to get through the oily layer or something.

Out Of The Sun

As for the color itself, the Rosy shade is rather subtle.  It’s nice because you can give your cheeks a fresh and natural glow with one swipe.  Keep applying the buildable CC for a more prominent pink glow.  I think Stila did a good job in pairing a subtle, natural pink with the darker eye colors.

Overall, I was really pleased with the Stila Adventurous In Aspen Travel Palette.  Like the other Travel Girl Palettes, these aren’t top of the line shadows, but they colors are gorgeous and you can create a ton of looks, especially if you think outside the palette and use other items you already have in your beauty stock pile. For $10 I think this is a must have.

Have you picked up the Stila Adventurous In Aspen Travel Girl Palette yet?  Do you plan on picking it up?  What do you think of it?

Clearance Sale At Ulta

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 28, 2010

Every year around this time, Ulta has a big in-store clearance.  There are savings of up to 80% (or so the big sign in the window claims).  Usually, these are pretty lack-luster in the sense that most of the items that they are clearancing out are brands that are lower than drugstore brands.  Of course, sometimes there are a few hidden treasures to be found.

I didn’t plan on hitting Ulta this past weekend, but made an unexpected run to Yankee Candle for their Semi-Annual Sale and Ulta just happens to be next door so I popped in.  Most of the clearance items in the front of Ulta were those God awful giant holiday make-up palettes that I wouldn’t even use on one of those Barbie Make Me Pretty heads that all of us growing up in the 1980s had.  But stashed away in the back of the store I found a few Bare Minerals Dynamic Duo sets.

The Dynamic Duo features 2 Bare Escentuals eyecolors in Take Me (a pale pink glimmer) and Wonder (a pale violet purple glimpse).  Even better, both are the larger .02 oz. size.  These are perfect for the upcoming Spring season, although I could wear purple and pink eye shadows any time of the year.

The BE Dynamic Duo is on sale for only $6.99.  An absolute steal for 2 full-sized Bare Escentuals eye shadows.  I love this…the sale tag on the front of the box states “Was $20,” but if you look at the original sales tag on the side of the box it says $15.  So who knows what the original price really was.  Not that I even care.  Like I said, all I needed to see was the $6.99 current price tag and I was sold.

Wonder (Wet, Dry) Take Me (Wet, Dry)

I posted the direct link to the Dynamic Duo page on  The bad thing is, it’s sold out online.  I hate that Ulta doesn’t put “Sold Out” or “Out Of Stock” directly on the product page.  It doesn’t tell you that an item is sold out until you try to put it in your cart.  I just added the link so that you can see a better picture of the Dynamic Duo.

Since this is a clearance item, I’m sure that stock is extremely limited.  I also saw some Stila sets that came in cans a la Barbie Loves Stila.  They were $19.99.  I can’t remember what was in the sets (never take you Sweetie with you make-up shopping).  Given the multitude of Stila deals lately, I was not in any need of any Stila so I didn’t spend a lot of time looking at them.

Have you been to the Ulta Clearance Sale?  Find anything good?  Let us know!

Budget Beauty Monday – Carmex Lime Twist

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 27, 2010

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

If you’re anything like me, you probably have at least 10 different tubes of lip balm scattered about your purse, desk, car, night stand, etc.  Especially during the cold, windy Chicago winters, lip balm is an absolute beauty staple for me.  A few weeks ago I picked up the limited edition Carmex Lime Twist lip balm while I was at Walgreens.  Truthfully, I’m not a huge fan of the original Carmex.  Don’t get me wrong, it works and is very moisturizing, but I can’t get past that Carmex taste.  But when I saw that Carmex was releasing 2 new limited edition flavors (Vanilla is the other one), I figured I would give it a try.

Just like the original Carmex, Carmex Lime Twist promises to soothe, heal, and protect.  It also comes with a dose of SPF 15 for even more protection.  So what did I think?

It’s no surprise that Carmex Lime Twist was just as effective on my lips as the original Carmex is.  It definitely kept my lips hydrated and soothed my dry lips.  I put it on just before I went out to shovel my driveway and my lips weren’t bothered by the cold and wind at all.  It also gave me that Carmex tingle on my lips.  I personally love the tingle from medicated balms, plumping lip glosses, etc.  That’s the good.

And then there’s the bad…at least for me.  While there is a taste of lime in the Carmex Lime Twist, I still got a strong taste of that original Carmex flavor.  Again, that’s a bit of a negative for me, but I know that there are tons and tons of Carmex fans out there that love that flavor.  If you fall into that group, this won’t be a problem for you.

Overall, I liked the Carmex Lime Twist and would use it again.  Since it does such a great job at soothing, healing, and protecting, I’m willing to overlook the Carmex flavor.  Carmex fans are definitely going to want to pick this as well as the Vanilla Carmex up.

Both the Carmex Lime Twist and Carmex Vanilla are limited edition flavors that are available exclusively at Walgreens.  I found mine on the beauty counter, not by the normal lip balm section in the pharmacy.

Are you a Carmex girl/guy?  Have you tried either the Lime Twist or Vanilla limited edition flavors?  What did you think?

Bare Escentuals On Sale At Nordstrom

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 26, 2010

Select Bare Escentuals products are also on sale at Most of the items that are on sale are also on sale at other places (Bare Escentuals, Sephora, etc.), but if you have a Nordstrom near you, you may be able to pick up your items at the store and save on shipping.

One item caught my eye on the Norstrom website.   The Bare Escentuals® bareMinerals® ‘Kaleidoscope’ 20-Piece Eye Collection is on sale for $70 down from $89 (a savings of 20%).  The Kaleidoscope collection features 20 eye shadows in 4 different finishes:  Wildcat (Frost); Alley Cat, A Bucc-an-Ear, Tiramisu (Sheen); Sun, Maraschino, Adventure, Iced, Smoke (Matte); Starfish (SPF 20), Cha-Cha, Blue Moon, Kir Royale, Sand Dollar (SPF 12), Disco, Grasshopper (Glimmer); and Blueberry, Grape, Jade, Suspense (Liner).  If you bought these 20 colors separately you would spend $220 so obviously the $70 price tag is quite a deal.  Great kit for newer Bare Minerals fans who are looking to build up their collection.  Happy Shopping!

Bare Escentuals After-Christmas Sale

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 26, 2010 has added a bunch of new products to their Specials Section. Although the savings aren’t as substantial as some of the Bare Minerals deals we’ve seen in the past few weeks, there are some great products that we have not seen on sale before. Beyond Gorgeous is marked down to $39 from $54.  If you missed it, I reviewed the Beyond Gorgeous kit here.  It’s a great kit to have.

If you spend at least $50, use coupon / promo code TREATS to get a free deluxe samples with your order.

The fine print in the email I received about this sale states that these items should also be on sale at Bare Escentuals Boutiques and Bare Escentuals Outlets.  I’m assuming that the newer kits would be available at the Boutiques and the older kits and items would be available at the Outlets.  The email also says “While Supplies Last” so I’m assuming there is no end date for this sale.  Happy Shopping!
