Budget Beauty Monday – E.L.F. Eyes Natural Eyeshadow Palette

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 13, 2010

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

Let me just tell you, it’s been forever and a day since I have bought an E.L.F. Cosmetics (or ELF as some people put it) product.  I had tried them out years ago and really wasn’t that impressed by what I had seen.  I can’t remember exactly what it was that I had tried back then, but I do know that I have tried their eye shadows and lip glosses.  I found them chalky and non-existent in color.  But since then, I have heard many people go on and on about their love of E.L.F. and decided it was time to give them another chance.  I mean, if I was stubborn and still thought that Wet N Wild Cosmetics were what they were when I was in grammar school/high school look what I would be missing out on!  So I decided to pick up on the new limited edition products from the E.L.F.

A few weeks ago while looking for the Wet N Wild Holiday Coloricon Palettes at Jewel-Osco, I came across the E.L.F. Eye Natural Eyeshadow Palette.  Normally it’s $3, but it was on sale for $2.something (it’s been weeks, I don’t remember exactly how much it was).  For that price, I figured I had nothing to lose so into my shopping cart it went.  I have to admit, I was really drawn to the shades.  Although they are neutrals, they were full of shimmer and sparkle and yelled holiday party season at me.  I was actually excited to try this out.

The E.L.F. Eyes Natural Eyeshadow Palette features six eye shadows in various shades of brown.  They all feature a decent amount of shimmer in the pans.  I would say that this palette features 2 light beige shades, 2 beige shades, and 2 darker brown shades.  The palette also comes with a little brush that I think is just useless.

See how messy it is? You can see the fall-out!

I have to admit, these shadows aren’t as chalky as I recall E.L.F. shadows being.  But they are extremely loose.  When I first applied these with an eye shadow brush (not the one in the palette), it was extremely messy with a lot of fall out and little color payout on my eye lids.  Sorry, Germaphobes, but I found that these were best applied using my finger tips.  It was still messy in the palette, but there wasn’t much fall out on my lids/face and by patting the color onto my lids, the color was much more visible.

As far as lastablility, as I found with most drugstore / budget make-up, the lighter shades wore off much faster than the darker shades.  The lighter shades were pretty much gone after four hours or so.  The darker shades were still visible after 6 hours, but they had faded quite a bit.

I said earlier that the shadows featured a decent amount of shimmer in the pans.  Once you put the shadow on your eyes, the shimmer is much less visible.  I have found that if you just pat the shadow onto your lids and not blend it so much, the shimmer is more visible.  I wouldn’t call this a shimmer shadow once it’s on your lids by any means.

My biggest gripe with this palette is that the shadows never seemed to set.  If you are an eye rubber, pass on this palette.  Seriously, hours after I put this shadow on I gently rubbed my eyes and my fingers were covered in neutral eye shadows!  I’m not normally an eye rubber, but don’t we all have those days that are just so long that at some point you have a quick eye rub???

Overall, the E.L.F. Eyes Natural Eyeshadow Palette left me with a better overall feeling about E.L.F. Cosmetics.  I’m not completely sold on ELF, but I won’t be as harsh with them in the future.  I wouldn’t suggest running out and picking up this palette, but for $3 or less, if you came across it and were smitten I wouldn’t dissuade you either.  Just know that you will need to be ready for touch-ups if you plan on wearing this for more than a couple of hours.  You can find this palette at Target or Jewel if you’re in the Chicagoland area.

Are you a fan of the E.L.F. Cosmetics line?  Have you tried any of their limited edition holiday products?

Let me start by saying that I have not tried this palette.  In general, I am not a fan of ELF products.  While their products are ridiculously cheap, I have found that the quality has just not been there with any of the products I have tried out.  But, at the same time, there are tons of people out there that swear by ELF.  So for all of you ELF lovers out there, I wanted to make sure you were aware of some ELF deals that is currently having.  Select ELF products are not only on sale but also come with free shipping!  The ELF Eyeshadow Palette – 100 Shades is on sale for only $5 with free shipping (down from $10).  This palette features 100 shades of eyeshadow packed in a 9″ palette.   If you are a fan of ELF Cosmetics, this may be a good time to stock up.  It’s always nice to find free shipping with no minimum purchase required.

I have no clue whether or not these sales prices are also offered in-store.  I also have no idea how long these sale prices and free shipping offer is good for.  I know, I’m just full of information today.  Happy Shopping!
