New Smashbox Violet Vixen Kit

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 24, 2011

While the holiday season is usually the time of year that cosmetics companies go all out with amazing kits and palettes, it seems like a lot of companies are trying to offer similar products during the rest of the year.  To that I say, bring it on!  With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, a lot of companies are releasing items to help make your irresistible to your Valentine!  Smashbox has just released a new kit perfect for the occasion:  the Violet Vixen Kit.

The Violet Vixen kit features Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Tempt, an Eye Shadow Quad in Charm (a quad of 4 gorgeous purple shades), a Lip Enhancing Gloss in Spellbound (a peachy-pink), and a deluxe sample of Lash DNA Mascara.

It should be of no surprise that I am loving the eye shadow quad.  Give me one purple eye shadow and I’m happy, give me 4 and I’m over the moon (although, one shade is more of a gray while the other is a bone shade, but they all tie together so well!).

Has anyone tried the Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara before?  I haven’t tried it yet.  I have to be honest, I’ve been rather turned off from Smashbox mascaras ever since I tried the Bionic Mascara.  Talk about a runny mess.  I don’t think I truly experienced “racoon eyes” until I wore Bionic.  Needless to say, I haven’t been excited to test out another Smashbox mascara since then.

The peachy-pink Spellbound lip gloss looks like the perfect shade of this kit.  Is it me or do kits often times feature bold glosses that don’t necessarily compliment the rest of the look?  The beauty rule (even though I don’t always follow it) is toned down lips when wearing a more dramatic eye.  With this kit, you can follow that rule!

The Violet Vixen Kit is new and only available at Smashbox.com. It’s priced at $42 with a value of $89.

Are you liking the vibe from the Violet Vixen Kit?  Or are you suffering from purple overload?

New Urban Decay Products Launch At Sephora

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 13, 2011

It looks like the new Urban Decay products are no longer exclusive to UrbanDecay.com.  Most of the new products are up and available for sale.  Some are listed on the site, but are not yet available for purchase.  The much lusted after Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection.  The Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tints are also available for purchase.  The 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils are on the site, but not yet available for purchase.  I’m sure they will be available any minute now.

I’m sure it’s a lot more likely that Santa left you a Sephora gift card as opposed to an Urban Decay gift card. So I’m guessing that a lot of people were waiting for these products to drop at Sephora so they could use their gift cards to pick them up.

I’m hoping this means they are available in-store too as I’m really wanting to play around and swatch the Cheek Tints and 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils.  Although, let’s be honest, I don’t really think there’s going to be a shade of shadow that I don’t love!

Have you caved in and picked up 15th Anniversary 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils Collection yet?  How about the Cheek Tints and 24/7 Shadow Pencils?

Budget Beauty Monday – L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 3, 2011

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on AnotherBeautyBlog.com should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

For the last few seasons, L’Oreal has been the official cosmetics sponsor of Project Runway.  On many an episode they prominently promote the HIP (High Intensity Pigments) line of L’Oreal.  If you’re a Project Runway fan, you may recall this past season a whole challenge was to use the L’Oreal HIP Eye Shadow Duos as the inspiration of a design (Mondo won with his fun and funky dress inspired by the Bright eye shadow duos…I loved that look!).

All this time I thought to myself, “I can’t believe they are using such a crappy line of cosmetics on Project Runway.”  Let me explain.  Many years ago when the HIP line was first introduced by L’Oreal I was rather excited.  The way they hyped it made it sound like it would be a drugstore comparison for MAC.  Now I didn’t expect to be an exact dupe for MAC, but I was expecting high pigment and decent staying power.  When HIP was first introduced, only a handful of products and shades were available including this eye color stick that reminded me of those candy lipsticks that I would have as a kid.  Remember them?  It was a hard piece of sugar candy kind of like a Sweettart in a neon plastic lip stick case.  Anyways, I picked up one of these color sticks as well as some sort of loose color pigment, both in a metallic silver shade, to test out.  Oh my God were these things horrible.  The coverage was spotty and the wear time was minimal…we’re talking like an hour.  I was so disgusted that I never gave the L’Oreal HIP line a second thought.  But then it began to pop up on Project Runway and I began to think about it again.  And then after I was blown away by the resurgence of the Wet n Wild Cosmetics brand I thought I should give the HIP line another chance.  I am so extremely glad I did.

The first L’Oreal HIP product I decided to pick up was the Color Chrome Eyeliner.  I’ve been on an eyeliner kick lately so imagine my delight when I saw that the Color Chrome Eyeliners were on clearance at Jewel-Osco (Note to Chicagoland girls:  Jewel-Osco has marked down a ton of drugstore brand cosmetics.  They do this at the end of every year to make room for new collections and colors.  Many items from Wet N Wild, Covergirl, Revlon, L’Oreal, Almay, Physicians Formula, and more have been marked down by 50% or more.).  They had a 50% off clearance tag on them which should have made them $4.99, but at the register they rang up $2.99!  I picked up all four colors:  Violet Volt (metallic purple), Black Shock (metallic black), Gold Charge (metallic gold), and Silver Lightning (metallic silver).

Silver Lightning, Black Shock, Gold Charge, Violet Volt

Oh my God, these L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliners are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!  I cannot believe I have been missing out on these for so long.  First of all, all four of these shades applied like butter.  Seriously, it’s like the eyeliner melted onto my lids.  No tug or pull at all.  If you are an eyeliner novice or still haven’t mastered the art of eyeliner application (don’t be embarrassed, I still have days where it looks like I was being tasered as I applied my liner) these are perfect for you.  They glide right over your lids giving you a very clean line.

Finally!  I get high pigment payout from the High Intensity Pigments line!  So often you see a bright, bold color on a cosmetics item only to see a much more muted color when applied.  Not the case at all with these Color Chrome liners.  The color is bold and the metallic finish is also there.

Talk about lastability.  I applied these in the morning and when I looked in the mirror in the evening they were still there.  These liners didn’t smudge at all.  I rubbed and rubbed at the swatched on my hands as well and they weren’t going anywhere.

Overall, these L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliners give even higher end eyeliners a run for their money.  They apply like a dream, provide a bold metallic color, and last all day.  The retail price for these runs between $8 and $10 depending on the store.  I think they are worth their full cost price, but let’s be honest, you can always get drugstore brands on sale. I can only hope that they will add more shades!  I would even go so far as to say that these are comparable to Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils or the Benefit Eyeliners that I loved in the Femme Metale kit.

Just a quick comment…I know that these eyeliners are an older product, but I still wanted to blog about them for many reasons.  First, they are amazing and deserve the praise.  Second, these are new to me (thanks to my stubbornness) and I know there are probably many other beauty addicts out there who have never given them a try either.  I don’t see anything wrong with giving an older product a review.

Have you tried the L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliners?  How about other HIP items?  Love them?  Hate them?  Let us know!

Benefit Cosmetics Femme Metale Update

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 16, 2010

Yesterday I posted my glowing review of the Benefit Femme Metale kit.  I just wanted to give everyone a quick update.  Let me just tell you, I have been fighting a cold since Saturday that seems to be getting worse instead of getting better.  Last night as I was soaking in a hot bubble bath, trying to clear my breathing passages, I looked down at my arm and thought I had a bug or something crawling on me.  Turns out it was the eyeliner swatches for the Benefit Cosmetics Femme Metale post from that morning.  It’s now 10:00 am Chicago time and I am trying to drag myself out of bed.  As I pushed up the sleeves of my shirt I was amazed to see that the Benefit eyeliner swatches are still there!  Now, they have faded a little, but I am utterly amazed at the fact that these have not smudged one bit…even after soaking in a bubble bath!  Look at the picture and see for yourself.  Amazing.  This is more than 24 hours after I applied these liners to my arm.  Again, at $28, the Femme Metale kit is a steal!

Benefit Cosmetics Femme Metale

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 15, 2010

The Benefit Cosmetics Femme Metale kit was one of those kits that I know I wanted as soon as I saw it.  I’m already a fan of Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows so I was immediately impressed by the value of this kit.  Originally priced at $38, the Femme Metale kit is the same price as 2 Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows ($19 a piece).  The uniqueness of some of the shades in this collection, particularly the Plum-ing For Gold shade, also had me lusting.  When UPS delivered my order from Sephora and I finally got to play with Femme Metale, my expectations were blown away.

The Femme Metale kit features 3 Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows in Platinum (metallic white), Plum-ing For Golf (metallic plum), and Taupe-aztic (metallic golden beige) and 3 eyeliners in Blinged (silver), Gem-N-Eye (golden olive shimmer), and  Steel Her Date (steal blue shimmer).  All of the colors are new and limited edition to Benefit so no worries about repeating colors here.

Let’s start with the Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows first.  Like I said, I was already a huge fan of Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows, but truthfully, it’s been awhile since I’ve bought one.  That’s simply because they really last a long time!  I don’t know if this is a newer formula or not, but the eyeshadows in Femme Metale seemed a little creamier than the other Benefit cream shadows I have used.  I liked that these seemed creamier and hope that Benefit continues to offer creamier cream shadows.

The colors in this kit are gorgeous.  I said I was most intrigued by Plum-ing For Gold.  If you’ve been reading this blog you know that I am a huge fan of purple shades.  I have a bunch of  purple shadows including a handful of purple cream shadows, but they all tend to be more of the brighter true to purple shades.  This plum shade is definitely a new one in my beauty arsenal.  Use it to put a new twist on a smoky eye.

When you hear “Platinum” you (or at least I) tend to think of metallicy silver shades.  In Femme Metale, the Platinum shade leans more to the white side than to the silver side.  It has the metallic shimmer to it, but don’t expect this to be a silver shade.  It is a stunning highlighter, but is just as beautiful as lid color.

Taupe-aztic re-ignited a fondness for gold shadows in me.  Don’t be fooled by the word “taupe” in the name.  This is not a boring taupe-beige shade.  It is an exciting shade of gold that you will be happy to wear way past the holiday season.

Like the permanent line of Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows, all of the shadows in Femme Metale are extremely pigmented and long-lasting.  They also have buildability.  Apply with a light hand for a sheerer look or apply a few swipes for a bold steamy eye look.

Let’s move onto the eyeliners.  Oh my God, the eyeliners!  I LOVE THEM!!!  I am planning a letter writing campaign to Benefit, begging them to introduce a permanent collection of these liners.  Blinged, Gem-N-Eye, and Steel Her Date all have a shimmery metallic effect to them.  The glided on like butter and once they set they weren’t going anywhere.  Seriously, when I swatched these on my arm they were there all day.  Even after I purposely rubbed at them they didn’t budge at all.  If you are a fan of Urban Decay 24/7 liners you will be just as smitten with these. I love them, love them, love them.

Let me just tell you, I was singing the praises of Femme Metale when it was priced at $38.  I told everyone I knew and anyone who complimented my look when I wore Femme Metale that they needed to get their hands on this kit.  Now that Sephora has put this kit on sale for $28, I am at a loss for words.  Seriously, if you haven’t picked up Femme Metale yet, surf on over to Sephora and pick it up immediately.  The value on this quality kit is mind-blowing!

Did you pick up Femme Metale?  Love it?  Hate it?  Let us know!

Bare Minerals Gold Rush 4-Piece Eye Color Collection

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 8, 2010

I had grand plans for the blog today.  I had a ton of swatching planned as well as some new product highlights.  All of that got tossed out the window when I woke up and saw that I had a flat tire.  I just got back from spending four, yes, FOUR hours at Pep Boys getting ONE new tire.  All I kept thinking was, “how long would it have taken if I needed to get four tires instead of just the one?”    I’m also going to the Blackhawks game tonight, so my time to blog today is not extremely limited.  Sorry!  I promise, the rest of this week will be full of new posts!

Anyways, remember I posted earlier this week that there were a few new products from Bare Escentuals that have popped up on QVC?  Well, another one of the new products Leslie brought to QVC on her latest visit is the Bare Minerals Gold Rush 4-Piece Eye Color Collection With Brush.  Gold Rush features 3 .01 oz eye colors in White Gold (a golden pearl glimmer), Rose Gold (a golden rose glimmer), and Aztec Gold (a burnished gold glimmer), a .01 oz liner shadow in Black Gold (a golden onyx glimmer), and a mini shadow brush all housed in a Gold Bar gift box.

The price on the Gold Rush set is phenomenal.  Not only is it Featured Priced at $19.97 but is also on buy more, save more.  That means that for each additional Gold Rush that you purchase after your first one, you save $4 on each.  That means you could stock up on Christmas gifts for friends for only $15.97!  That is a steal.

Now I know that I have been pretty anti-neutral and anti-beigey shades.  But let me just tell you, I had to get this Gold Rush kit.  The price is amazing and the colors look beautiful too.

The $19.97 price is apparently only good thru tonight, which I think is Leslie’s last Bare Minerals presentation for this visit.  No idea if the buy more, save more deal is only thru tonight too.  I have a feeling that this kit has the risk of selling out.  Seriously, gorgeous colors, amazing price, buy more save more?  Bare Escentuals girls will be stocking up!

What do you think of the Bare Minerals Gold Rush Collection?  Will you be picking up more than one for gifts?

***UPDATE***The  Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection is available now until noon PSD!  It is priced at $92.00 with a value of $264.00.  Yikes!  It is a deal, but I will be passing on this one for now.

Did you know that UD has been around for 15 years??? Crazyness, right? To celebrate their 15th anniversary, Urban Decay will be releasing special 15th anniversary collection pieces during 2011. It’s only a month away, but if that’s too long for you don’t fret, tomorrow (that would be Monday, November 29th) Urban Decay is giving you a sneak peek at their first anniversary collection. Yes, tomorrow (Cyber Monday) you’ll have to opportunity to pick up the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection before it goes on sale to the general public in January 2011. Urban Decay, I love you and your 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, but how many does a girl need? Seriously, even a beauty addict like me is feeling 24/7 overload lately. Anyone else feeling this way? Don’t get me wrong, I love love love the 24/7 pencils, but my stash is just bursting at the seams with these pencils. I even passed on the holiday kit because I already had multiples of many of the colors.

No clue as to what the price on this kit is going to be. I will be checking it out tomorrow, but unless it’s an absolute steal, I will most likely be passing on this one. Unless I grow a few more sets of eyes, I’ve got enough 24/7 pencils to last me for a while.

Budget Beauty Monday – Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Coloricon Palettes

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 25, 2010

***Make sure you enter our Wet n Wild Holiday Pixie Palette Giveaway!***

Let me just tell you, I am so excited about this post.  It is finally time to really discuss the Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Coloricon Palettes.  I posted a teaser post this weekend to let you know that I had gotten all four of these elusive palettes and to also let you know that they are BOGO (buy one, get one free) at Jewel-Osco this week.  Now it’s time to get to the fun part, swatches, pictures, and thoughts!  Here is my review for the Wet N Wild 2010 Holiday Palettes!

I first proclaimed my love for the Wet N Wild Coloricon Palettes in a Budget Beauty Monday post in August.  Unlike the original Coloricon palettes, the Holiday palettes do not have corresponding shimmer and matte shades.  For the most part, the shades are shimmer.  Come on, it’s the holidays!  It’s all about the shimmer!  But just like the original Coloricon palettes, the formulas for these shadows are amazing:  creamy, smooth, and long-lasting, not to mention full of pigment.  The Holiday palettes also come with a bonus eyeliner pencil in a color to match the palette.  All of this for the unbelievable price of $4.99!

Let’s get to the colors shall we.  There are four Wet N Wild Holiday Coloricon Palettes for you to choose from.  Golden Godess offers six beautiful neutral shades on beige, brown, copper, etc. with a matching chocolate brown eye liner pencil.  I’ve been over neutrals for a while (at least over buying more them to add to my ever growing collection), but I am back on board with this palette.  It is amazing to see just how different the shades are.  Looking at all six of the shade swatches on my arm, it is such a broad spectrum of neutral shades.  I am loving the coppery shades.

Night Elf is definitely the most unique palette of the group.  It is the smokey eye palette of the group (black, silver, white), but with one big suprise.  It has a festive red shade.  It is not a scarey red by any means.  If red can be subtle, this would be the subtle red.  It doesn’t have much shimmer in it compared to the other shades and blends with the other colors beautifully.  It is clear that whoever put this palette together really took the time to think about how the colors correspond with each other and how they will come together to create a fabulous look as opposed to just throwing a red in there just to do it.  You know what I mean?  Night Elf also comes with a black eye liner pencil.

Sugar Plum Fairy is my dream come true.  It’s a packed to the brim with purples, violets, and plums!  Purple smokey eye, here I come!  Looking at the palette, it looks like the top two shades are a cream and beige shade, but once you apply the shades they are really shades of violet.  I love the super dark plum shade.  It is perfect for running over your lash line and for blending into your crease to make that smokey eye.  Sugar Plum Fairy also comes with a bold purple eye liner pencil.

Snow Sprite features beautiful shades of blue and green.  The name really suits this palette because I can picture happy little elves sporting these shades (yes, I realize that I sound crazy).  The lighter shades in this palette have a very nice metallic sheen to them.  It almost looks like a foiling technique has been used to apply them, but that’s they way the look straight out of the palette.  Just like the other palettes, the darker shades will lend themselves perfectly in creating a smokey eye.  Snow Sprite also comes with a silvery-blue eye liner pencil.

Okay, who isn’t excited after seeing all of those swatch pictures?!?!  I keep looking down at my swatch covered arm and finding that I am loving these palettes more and more if that’s even possible.  The pictures really don’t do these palettes and the shades justice.  They are even more beautiful in person.

This is my first time using Wet N Wild eye liner pencils and I have to admit I like what I see.  They have a creamy texture and glided on.  I usually use liner pots that need to be applied with a brush or fatter crayon shadow liners, so I did need to run these pencils over my eyes a few more times to get the more defined line that I prefer.  But that’s really not that big of a deal.

What else can I say, I LOVE LOVE LOVE these Wet N Wild Holiday palettes!  If you are a beauty snob who still won’t give Wet N Wild a chance, please, I’m begging you, pick up at least one of these palettes.  Give it a try.  What have you got to lose?

With the BOGO sale going on at Jewel, I’ve already picked up a bunch of these for friends and family this Christmas.  I’m determined to dispell the myth that Wet N Wild is the tacky make-up brand from your youth!

The Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Coloricon Palettes have an MSRP of $4.99 each.  If you haven’t found them in your local grocery stores or drugstores, don’t worry, they are coming!  When you do see them, don’t wait in picking them up.  These palettes are limited edition and it’s a safe bet that they are going to sell out quickly.

I said that I had picked up a few of these palettes.  So I’m thinking that maybe I should share the love and have a giveaway.  What do you guys think?  Check back later in the week!

Have you been lucky enough to find the Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Coloricon Palettes yet?  Which one is your favorite?  If you haven’t gotten them yet, which one are you dying to get your hands on?

LORAC All That Glitters Limited Edition Sparkle Eye Pencil Shadow Liner Collection

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 20, 2010

While out and about today I decided to take an unplanned trip to Ulta.  They didn’t have all of the holiday collections out, but they did have quite a few.  I did end up going home with a holiday palette which I’ll be posting about soon.  But there was also an item that I didn’t buy that I’m now regretting.  That would be the LORAC All That Glitters Limited Edition Sparkle Eye Pencil Shadow Liner Collection.  It’s an Ulta exclusive and I’m already thinking about making my way to Ulta to get it.

The LORAC All That Glitters set features 5 of their glitter eye shadow / liner pencils in Cobalt Sky (Navy Blue), Sapphire Shimmer (Purple), Gunmetal Glitz (Charcoal Grey), Midnight Sparkle (Black), and Paparazzi Pencil (Brown).  It is priced at $19!  That is a huge steal.  These are smaller pencils compared to the regular sized individual pencils LORAC offers, but they are by no means mini.  They are a good size.  The full-sized pencils are $18 so the $19 price tag truly is a deal.

I played around with all of the shades in this set and loved them all.  They are all on the darker side.  No bright colors here.  There is also a good amount of shimmer glitter in these pencils.

Like I said, I’m already wanting to go back and pick the All That Glitters collection up.  Why, why did I have to have the will power to say just one item???  There is no doubt in my mind that All That Glitters will eventually find its rightful spot in my beauty collection!  Once it has arrived, I will post swatches.  Let me just tell you, I’m so loving the LORAC Holiday 2010 collection!

As I said, All That Glitters is an Ulta exclusive.  It’s available in Ulta stores as well as Ulta.com

Are you a fan of LORAC?  Will you be picking up the All That Glitters set?
