Smashbox Create Your Own Kit

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on February 8, 2011

I know one of the common complaints among beauty kit purchasers is the fact that many kits feature at least one item you don’t want or won’t use or have too many of.  Now, I know at lot of us still pick up these kits due to the fact that it’s still a great deal for the items you will use.  I’m happy to see that more cosmetics companies are hopping on the create-your-own kit bandwagon.  You may recall that I took advantage of the Bare Escentuals create-your-own kit during the holiday season to pick up 3 of the High Shine eye shadows for about the cost of 2.  Smashbox is the latest cosmetics company to offer a Create Your Own Kit.

This week only, you can Create Your Own Kit on  You start with a gold make-up bag and then select three items to fill it up with.  You can choose any combination of Eye Shadow Trios, Blush Rush blushes, and Lip Enhancing Glosses.  You can pick one of each or 3 shadow trios or 2 blushes and a lip gloss and so on.  Depending on the combo of products you go with, the kit has a value of up to $84.

If you are a fan of particular shades from Smashbox, this is a great opportunity to get exactly what you want at a pretty great discount.

Are you a fan of the create-your-own-kit idea?

Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo Review And Swatches

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on February 3, 2011

It’s no secret that I am a fan of Tarte Cosmetics.  So when Tarte was on QVC recently during their Beautiful You, Try Something New event I was very happy to see a ton of new items.  I showed a little restraint, but I still picked up a bunch of new products from Tarte.  Of the new products I have received so far, I would have to say that the Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo is my favorite.

The Achiote Duo features a Tarte Cheek Tint in a beautiful mirrored compact as well as a new Lip Luster lip crayon both in the peachy-pink Achiote shade.  Tarte claims that both items provide natural looking color and are long-wear products.

When I saw the presentation on the Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo, I was immediately sold.  The color looked great on the models and given my love for Tarte I knew the quality would be there.  This duo did not disappoint.  The color is amazing and gives me such a natural look that would make you say “you look nice” as opposed to your make-up looks nice,” you know what I mean?

At first look, the Achiote shade looks very pink.  But after you apply the products, you see that it is much more of a peachy-pink shade.  Both the cheek tint and the lip luster appear to have a lot of shimmer, at first look.  The lip luster does have a touch of shimmer when applied, but the cheek tint doesn’t really have any shimmer when applied.  The look of the cheek tint on the skin is very similar to that of the Tarte Cheek Stains; that is it leaves you with a nice glow.  The swatch pictures do not do this shade justice!

I love the new Tarte Lip Lusters.  It felt so smooth and creamy when I applied it to my lips.  It really does combine the best of lipsticks and lipglosses in that it has a creamy feel and coverage like a lipstick but the shine of a gloss.  Of course, we’re not talking about high shine here.  Luster really is the best name and description for this product.  There is a very nice minty flavor when you first apply the Lip Luster as well.  It doesn’t last very long, but it is a nice little surprise when you first apply.  There isn’t a tingling feeling or anything like that that you might associate peppermint with.  The color seems to last between 4 and 5 hours for me.

As for the Cheek Tint, this is another homerun.  First off, the compact is really great.  It has a beautiful design on the cover, it contains a nice sized mirror, and it closes securely.  I hate it when you get a compact that doesn’t close well and then you have to worry about opening in your purse, make-up bag, etc. I don’t think you will have that problem with this compact.  As I already said, the finish on this product is very similar to that of Tarte Cheek Stains.  Honestly, I don’t know why this product is a “Cheek Tint” and not a “Cheek Stain” because for me the look and wear-time is the same as the Cheek Stains.  The only difference is that it is housed in a compact and not the push-up stick.  When applied, you are left with a beautiful, natural glow.  I have used this Cheek Tint everyday since I have gotten it and it has paired well with a wide range of colors and looks.  For me, the color lasts at least 8 hours (that’s when I stopped checking the mirror and my watch).

Both the Cheek Tint and Lip Luster are sheer, but buildable.  A little goes a long way, especially if you’re going for the natural glow look.  The Achiote color is a very flattering shade that should work for most skin types.

Overall, I absolutely LOVE the new Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo.  The color is so gorgeous and really leaves you with such a natural glow.  It will be perfect for the upcoming Spring and Summer.  And it’s not just the color that I love, it’s the products themselves.  I already picked up 2 more of the Lip Lusters which I will post a review and swatches for later.

The Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo is available at for $35 with a retail value of $49. During Beautiful You, Try Something New, I picked this up for $28.93. Having tried this duo out, I would pick it up at $35 in a heartbeat.

Did you pick up the Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo?  Have you tried any of the new Tarte Lip Lusters?  What do you think?

Stila Make Me Blush Set

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 20, 2011

Remember a few days ago when I posted about Stila’s adorable Make Me Blush palette?  Well after doing a little searching I found this even more adorable Stila Make Me Blush Set on  The Stila Make Me Blush Set not only features the Make Me Blush Palette but also 2 Stila Lip Glazes in Hugs and Kisses.  Seriously, can you just die?

Now I need another lip gloss like I need a hole in the head.  Honest to God, as I was driving home from Bath & Body Works today with 4 new lip glosses for my stash I thought, “How many lips do I have?  How am I ever going to use up all of the glosses I already have and I just picked up 4 more?!?!”  But how can you resist these cute Hugs and Kisses Lip Glazes?

The Make Me Blush Set is currently listed as not in stock, but I would have to imagine that it’s only a matter of days until it is available.  It will be available for $20.

Are you loving this Make Me Blush Set?  Would you prefer this set or would you rather just pick up the blush itself?

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 19, 2011

I’m really excited about this one.  I am a huge fan of Tarte Cheek Stains, but really, aren’t most people who became fans of Tarte when they were first popping up on the scene?  Maureen Kelly and Tarte really created a winner with their Cheek Stains.  Everyone of the shades gives me such a natural glow.  But sometimes I’m not feeling the Tarte Cheek Stains.  Most of the shades of Cheek Stains leave a slightly dewy look.  Now, it’s not that I don’t like the dewy look, but sometimes I don’t want that dewy look, you know what I mean?  On those days I have to reach for a powder blush.  Now Tarte offers us the best of both worlds!  Meet the new Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush.

The new Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush is a powder blush infused with the nutrient-rich Amazonian clay that Tarte is becoming famous for using.  The shades are inspired by Tarte’s beloved Cheek Stains.  They include Amused (bright pink), Blissful (warm peach), Blushing Bride (plumy rose), Dollface (light pink), Exposed (nude), Flush (deep berry), Natural Beauty (muted strawberry red), Tipsy (coral).  The blush is housed in a pretty pink compact.  It has also been awarded Sephora’s natural seal.

From Tarte:  “Those with dry skin will benefit from the clay’s nourishing and hydrating properties, which naturally restore skin’s moisture. Combination skin types can rely on its ability to zero in on skin concerns and deliver benefits to restore complexion harmony. The result? Blush that wears better, longer, and truer!”

If you’re a Tarte fan, especially a Tarte Cheek Stain fan, you can’t tell me you’re not excited about these!  I’m hoping that these are in-store at Sephora so that I can go and play with them.  I think I’m going to wait until I go to the store and swatch these blushes before I pick one up.  God knows that I have most of the shades of Cheek Stains that inspired these blushes so it would be too hard to just pick one to order.  Hopefully, after I sample and swatch at the store, the decision will be easier.

The new Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush is currently available at  It also says that it’s a Sephora exclusive.  It’s priced at $25 for a 0.2 oz. compact.

What do you think?  Are you a fan of Tarte Cheek Stains?  Will you be picking up the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush?

Stila Make Me Blush Palette

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 17, 2011

If you’re a drugstore beauty diva, you may have seen the new Physicians Formula Happy Booster line popping up (if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry, it’s coming).  The Happy Booster line features face powder, bronzer, and blush products all adorned with happy little hearts.  I am hoping to pick up at least one item from this line to do a review.  I saw an empty display at CVS this past week.  Honestly, I think I’m more smitten with the cute little hearts than the Physicians Formula product itself.  But the good news is that Physicians Formula is not the only brand to create cute heart adorned products.  Meet Stila Make Me Blush Palette, the new blush from Stila Cosmetics.

The Make Me Blush Palette is a multi-shade powder blush inspired by those cute little Valentine’s Day candy conversation hearts.

From Stila:  ” The Make Me Blush Palette is embossed with a cute Conversation Heart design. The top layer is sprayed with the gold shine for visual and once dusted off with brush you are left with all over glow pressed powder that will add warmth, soft color, and sheer luminosity to cheeks and complexion.

Great for all skintones, the micro-fine formula is velvety and blendable and instantly enhances the complexion with a tint of pinks and corals.”

I am smitten!  I love the hearts and the colors look fab.  I am kicking myself because I meant to order this palette this weekend because I had a free shipping offer and I totally forgot.  I’m hoping that there will be another free shipping promo soon!  Once I do order it, I will definitely post a review and swatches.

The Stila Make Me Blush Palette is only $14!  This is a great deal considering that the Physicians Formula products I talked about at the beginning of this post run about the same price (unless they are on sale) but, generally, have less quality.  Right now, I am only finding Make Me Blush on It doesn’t mention if this is an exclusive product or if we’ll be able to find this at Sephora soon.

What do you think of Stila Make Me Blush?  Will you be picking it up?

New Urban Decay Products Launch At Sephora

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 13, 2011

It looks like the new Urban Decay products are no longer exclusive to  Most of the new products are up and available for sale.  Some are listed on the site, but are not yet available for purchase.  The much lusted after Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection.  The Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tints are also available for purchase.  The 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils are on the site, but not yet available for purchase.  I’m sure they will be available any minute now.

I’m sure it’s a lot more likely that Santa left you a Sephora gift card as opposed to an Urban Decay gift card. So I’m guessing that a lot of people were waiting for these products to drop at Sephora so they could use their gift cards to pick them up.

I’m hoping this means they are available in-store too as I’m really wanting to play around and swatch the Cheek Tints and 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils.  Although, let’s be honest, I don’t really think there’s going to be a shade of shadow that I don’t love!

Have you caved in and picked up 15th Anniversary 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils Collection yet?  How about the Cheek Tints and 24/7 Shadow Pencils?

Stila Adventurous In Aspen Travel Girl Palette

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 29, 2010

I’m finally getting around to a review for the latest Stila Travel Girl Palette – Adventurous In Aspen.  If you recall, Adventurous In Aspen features four eye shadows in Snow Angel (shimmering heather gray), Icicles (blue), Glisten (shimmering gold), and Ajax (black with gold sparkle) and a Convertible Color in Rosy (rose-pink).  The colors looked stunning online, but how did they do in person?

I have to admit, at first I wasn’t as blown away with these colors as I thought I would be once I got them.  But after playing with them for a while I am actually quite smitten.  With the exception of Snow Angel, the eye shadows are darker shades.  But with a light hand, you can apply them so they appear to be more sheer.  I will say that even though they are darker colors, they are very buildable.  Snow Angel has the most shimmer, but the Glisten and Ajax shades have a very nice shimmer as well.  The Icicles shade is the most matte of the group.  It does come off a little chalkier than the other shades.

In The Sun

I know the point of these palettes is to use the colors together to create a complete look.  But I have been using the darker shades of shadow from this palette with similar lighter shades from other palettes, kits, singles, etc. that I already had.  The pairings have created some very pretty smoky eyes.

As for the Convertible Color, I have to say I was a little disappointed with this one.  Usually I’m a huge fan of Stila Convertible Colors, but this one left a lot to be desired.  First, this CC seemed more oily than others.  I don’t know if you can see it, but if you look at the first picture you can see what looks like condensation on the CC.  When I first tried to swatch the colors the CC color did not appear.  The only thing that was left on my hand was a clear oily residue.  But after a few tries, the Rosy color did start to appear.  It’s almost like I had to get through the oily layer or something.

Out Of The Sun

As for the color itself, the Rosy shade is rather subtle.  It’s nice because you can give your cheeks a fresh and natural glow with one swipe.  Keep applying the buildable CC for a more prominent pink glow.  I think Stila did a good job in pairing a subtle, natural pink with the darker eye colors.

Overall, I was really pleased with the Stila Adventurous In Aspen Travel Palette.  Like the other Travel Girl Palettes, these aren’t top of the line shadows, but they colors are gorgeous and you can create a ton of looks, especially if you think outside the palette and use other items you already have in your beauty stock pile. For $10 I think this is a must have.

Have you picked up the Stila Adventurous In Aspen Travel Girl Palette yet?  Do you plan on picking it up?  What do you think of it?

Benefit Bella Bamba Available At Now

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 15, 2010

On Monday I posted about the release of the new Benefit Bella Bamba face color.  Originally, according to Benefit, Bella Bamba was going to be exclusively available directly from Benefit for a few weeks.  I don’t know if that was a mistake or if they changed their minds our what, but this morning as I was browsing I noticed that Bella Bamba is in stock and available for purchase. Of course, it becomes available 2 days after the Sephora gift card codes expired!  I so would have used my gift card to pick this up.

Anyways, I figured I would point out the fact that now has Bella Bamba in case you would prefer to order it from Sephora instead of Benefit. I have no clue if Bella Bamba is also available in Sephora stores already. If anyone has any idea feel free to comment and let us all know!

Benefit Bella Bamba Face Color

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 13, 2010

I can’t believe I almost forgot to post about this.  Benefit’s latest face color in a box (that’s what I call Benefit’s cute face colors) is available!  Bella Bamba is available on  It won’t be available at places like Sephora until a few weeks from now.  I am already in love with Bella Bamba and I haven’t even gotten my hands on it yet!

Benefit’s Bella Bamba face color is a gorgeous watermelon pink shade that even has a watermelon scent.  It’s a 3D blush that will give your face a more structured look.  Really, who doesn’t want gorgeous, structured cheek bones?!?!  The watermelon color has gold shimmery undertones to really take your look to the next level.

I don’t know if you noticed, but Benefit is making some changes to its face color boxes.  If you have ever used a Benefit face color box before you know that the top is completely separate from the bottom.  Benefit is now going to be using a box where the top is connected to the bottom along one side.  These new boxes also feature a magnetic closure.  I know a lot of people complain about the current Benefit box, especially when trying to bring your face color while traveling.  I personally don’t have a problem with the current box, but can see the benefits of the new box, provided that the magnetic closure is secure enough.  The old Benefit boxes are currently being phased out and all of the Benefit face colors will soon be featured in this new attached box.

I cannot even express how badly I want Bella Bamba right now.  But I’m going to show some restraint and wait until after Christmas to pick it up.  Seriously, cosmetics companies are offering so many amazing sales and deals lately that I am so far beyond over-spent on make-up it’s ridiculous.  Bella Bamba is available at right now and is priced at $28.

What are your thoughts on the new Bella Bamba face color?  Will you be picking one up?

Budget Beauty Monday – Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek Duo Cheek Tint

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 6, 2010

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

I have been lagging in the Budget Beauty Monday posts for the past few weeks.  I apologize for that.  It’s not for lack of beauty products because, let me just tell you, I have got a ton of them all over my desk.  I have just been lacking in time over the weekends to compose posts for Mondays.  But it’s time to get back into the swing of things.

Today, let’s talk about Hard Candy’s Hide & Glow Cheek.  You may remember Hard Candy as a cosmetics line that was available at Sephora years ago.  Nowadays, you can find the Hard Candy line at Wal-mart.  I have to admit, I am not much of a Wal-mart shopper.  I tend to stop there more during the holiday season to do some Christmas shopping.  While there, I took a gander at the beauty section and decided I wanted to try something new.  Enter Hard Candy’s Hide & Glow Cheek.

Hide & Glow Cheek is a duo cheek tint stick.  Each end of the stick has a different colored cheek tint.  Hide & Glow Cheek comes in 3 varities:  Hot Date, Pillow Talk, and In Love.  I decided to go with In Love.  To me, In Love is comprised of golden pink and coral-y shades.  I was excited to give these a try since I am such a fan of Tarte Cheek Stains.  It was priced at only $6!  So how did they stand up?

This cheek tint was extremely creamy.  It was almost like a cream stick blush.  It was nice that I didn’t have to tug and tug at my cheeks to get the product on my face.  But the downside to this was the fact that it was easy to over apply and appear greasy.

You can see that it illuminated my skin, but there is not much color there.

I have to say, I don’t think the name “cheek tint” fits this product very well.  When you hear the word “tint” you think of color.  I think this is more of an illuminator and highlighter than a tint.  My cheeks were left with a shiny glow, but not much color.

One thing that really bothered me about this product is the fact that it felt like the cheek tint was just sitting on top of my skin.  It didn’t feel like it was blended in.  Anytime during the day that I would rest my face on my hands it felt like my fingers were sweeping over a pool of grease or oil.  Now I don’t have oily skin, but I would think that those that do have oily skin would find this troublesome.

Overall, I was not a big fan of Hide & Glow Cheek.  The color payoff was almost non-existent and my face look shiny and oily.

If you want to try them out for yourself, Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek cheek tints are available at Wal-mart and are normally priced at $6 each.

Have you tried the Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek cheek tints?  What did you think?
