K-DASH by Kardashian

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on September 15, 2010

If you’ve visited this blog before, you can tell that I obviously have an obsession with QVC.  It’s a sickness really.  I used to be embarassed about it because most QVC addicts are old women who don’t venture out to the stores much and rely on QVC as their only means of shopping.  When you’re in your 20s and you’re talking about QVC people look at you like you’re a mutant.  Even my own BFF rolls her eyes and makes sarcastic comments whenever I mention anything about QVC.

Okay, back to the topic of this post.  If you’re a fan of the Kardashian sisters, you’re about to become a fan of QVC.  The Kardashians have just released their brand spanking new clothing line K-DASH on QVC.  Now, I’m not a fan of the Kardashians per se, but if Keeping Up With The Kardashians is on and nothing else is I will watch it.  And I have to admit, it’s nice to see “reality tv stars” who actually do some work…even if it’s fun work like creating a clothing line.

I have to admit, I kind of like what I see in K-DASH.  The clothes are definitely stylish.  And you can really see the Kardashians in them.  There is nothing that bothers me more than when a celebrity creates/endorses a clothing line consisting of items that appeals to the masses but that she would never wear herself.  I could see all three of the sisters wearing all of the pieces in this collection anytime of the week.

The items are moderately priced from the $50-range for clothing items to the $90-range for jackets.  There are also 2 handbags priced at about $100 and $200 each.  The handbags are probably the items I like least in the collection.  While the fringe look is popping up a lot this Fall, I am not a fan of it at all.  The fringe look reminds of weekends spent in Wisconsin Dells.  My sister always had to get a t-shirt that had the fringe look along the bottom and the sleeves.  Come on Chicagoland and Midwestern readers…you so know what I’m talking about!

I’m particularly drawn to the Printed Sequin Tank Top with Racer Back as well as the Printed Tunic with Detachable Belt.  Both pieces seem very stylish yet sophisticated to me.  I could see both pieces being inter-changed with a number of other pieces and outfits.  And I love the fact that both pieces feature prints and are not just a mono-tone color.

Since this line is so new, there aren’t a ton of customer reviews on, but the reviews that are there are all glowing.

What do you think of the K-DASH by Kardashian line?  Love it?  Hate it?  How about the Kardashians themselves?  Leave a comment!

Kohl’s Cares Simply Vera Wang Breast Cancer Awareness Collection

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on September 15, 2010

Hey everyone.  I’ve got another Breast Cancer Awareness collection for you today.  While it’s not exactly a collection of beauty products, it is a Vera Wang collection!  Kohl’s Cares has teamed up with Vera Wang and her Kohl’s Simply Vera line to create a bunch of pretty pink products to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  100% of all the net profits will be donated to support the fight against Breast Cancer.  The best part…every item is either $5 or $10!  Thank God for that because I am eyeing multiple pieces from this collection.  The Simply Vera Breast Cancer Awareness collection features sequin and ribbon coin purses ($10), t-shirt and boy short duos ($10), sequin scarves ($10), sequin gloves ($5), sequin knit caps ($5), a necklace ($5), long sleeved shirts ($5), a mug ($5), and umbrellas ($5).  Here’s my only gripe.  At the top of the page, it states that these products are sold exclusively online at and at Kohl’s stores in Wisconsin.  Why only Wisconsin???  How unfair is that.

BAND-AID Brand Bandages By Cynthia Rowley

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 26, 2010

Yesterday it was Diane Von Furstenberg hospital gowns, today it’s BAND-AIDs by Cynthia Rowley.  You read that correctly.  Cynthia Rowley has teamed up with BAND-AID to create a limited edition collection of designer Band-Aids.  Each $10 tin contains 20 assorted designer Band-Aids featuring designs by the fabulous Cynthia Rowley.  One dollar from the sale of each tin will go to Design Ignites Change, an organization that engages high school and college students in design and architecture projects that address social issues in their own communities.  The designs are pretty snazzy.  Remember when you were little and your Mom or Dad would buy Band-Aids with your favorite characters on them so you would fake an injury just to wear a Hello-Kitty Band-Aid?  These Cynthia Rowley Band-Aids may induce an adult version of that scenario!

So, who thinks that the next announcement is going to be hospital bedding by Ralph Lauren?  Too funny!

Diane Von Furstenberg Presents…Hospital Gowns?!?!

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 25, 2010

Ugly hospital gowns may soon be a thing of a past.  Diane Von Furstenberg has teamed up with the Cleveland Clinic to create a new more fashionable hospital gown that is also more functional than the traditional “Johnny Gown” loathed by most hospital patients.  The DVF hospital gown features an elastic waistband, a wrap-around closure, and a wider v-neck.  Apparently, this pilot program has been pretty well received by most of the patients.  The male patients, however, think the gowns are a little feminine.  Looking at the picture provided by the Cleveland Clinic, I can see their point.  The male patients totally looks like he is wearing a dress!  You can read the whole article here.

I think the gowns are pretty stylish looking for hospital gowns.  Luckily, I have yet to be a patient in a hospital so I haven’t had to wear the nasty gowns that are currently available for patients.  But I know that if I was given the choice I would pick this DVF gown in a heartbeat.

After reading this article it makes me think, wouldn’t this make a great Project Runway challenge?  I mean, they have already redone things like Post Office uniforms, why not take on hospital gowns!  I can only imagine some of the things the designers would come up with.

Budget Beauty Monday – Sequin Ballet Flats

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 9, 2010

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

Today’s Budget Beauty Monday piece is a little different. I wanted to pass on a great deal I found. What’s better than budget beauty? Budget shoes!

Let me just tell you, I cannot wait for Fall to get here. I’m grateful to live in Chicago where we get to experience all four seasons (sometimes in the same day), but this summer seems to have been exceptionally harsh. We have never used the air conditioning as much as we have this summer. It has been so damn humid that my hair is desperately calling for Fall too.

What does this have to do with this post? As I’ve been perusing the upcoming Fall trends and lines I am ecstatic to see that sequins and sparkle and front and center. Be it a handbag, a sweater, a cotton shirt, or even shoes, sequins can be found on everything. Let me just tell you, I am a lover of all things sparkle. Not in the gaudy showgirl sense, but in the sophisticated, elegant sense. And that is definitely a trend I am seeing for this Fall.  Gone are the harsh giant sequins, sewn awkwardly onto the garment so that they stick out and are almost weapon-like.  The new sequined garments and accessories feature mini sequins that are sewn flat giving the item the perfect amount of shimmer and shine.

A few weeks ago, I was at Kohl’s and saw that they had just put out the new Vera Wang shoe line for the Fall. I immediately fell in love with the Olivier Flats, a pair of black sequined ballet flats.   The $54.99 price tag, not so much (they weren’t on sale yet).  I found myself thinking about the Vera Wang flats for the next few days.  Just as I convinced myself that $54.99 wasn’t really that much money and was about to go to Kohl’s to pick up the Olivier Flats fate intervened and I took a trip to Target.

Let me just tell you, I think I startled a woman in the shoe department when I let out a shriek when I saw the Mossimo Odell Sequin Ballet Flats.  They were the same color and same sequins as the Vera Wang Olivier Flats, but at $12.99 they were a steal.  In to the cart they went, I didn’t even give it a second thought.

Of course, there are some differences between the two pairs of shoes.  First of all, it’s a given that the Vera Wang shoes are most likely a better quality.  That being said, I still don’t think any sequined shoe is going to be of such a great quality that it would survive rain or snow.  At $12.99 I’m not going to worry if I’m out and the weather turns crappy where as at $54.99 I would take my shoes off and walk barefoot in the snow.  You know what I mean?  Second, as with almost every Vera Wang flat I have seen, the Olivier flats have the stretch sides where as the Mossimo shoes do not.

If you are as excited about the sequin trend as I am, I highly recommend checking out the budget version of the Vera Wang Olivier Flats.  What sequined items have you come across that you’ve added to your wardrobe?  Please leave a comment and let us know!
