Tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stain Review And Swatches

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on February 9, 2011

When Tokidoki first popped onto the make-up scene, I think most beauty addicts wondered if this was going to be a brand that had amazing packaging but less than stellar products.  I think it’s safe to say that Tokidoki has far surpassed expectations both packaging-wise and product-wise.  Their eye shadows are amazing.  And I always get a “Oooohhh, what’s that?” when I pull out a Tokidoki item from my purse.  When I saw their new Tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stain a few weeks ago, I knew I had to pick one up.

Tokidoki touts their Gelato Lip Balm Stain as a moisturizing lip balm with staining abilities.  Intriguing, right?  Especially since the most common complaint about lip stains seems to be the fact that they tend to dry out lips.  Tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stains are available in four shades:  Ciao Ciao (glossy clear with a mint flavor), Donutella (sheer coral strawberry with a melon flavor), Pink Martini (sheer hot pink with a cherry flavor), and Skeletrina (sheer grape with a grape flavor).  I picked up Donutella.  So what did I think?

I love the Donutella Gelato Lip Balm Stain!  It is exactly as described in that it feels like a moisturizing balm but still has the staining ability.  The melon flavor was subtle, which is a great thing for those who can’t stand over-powering scents and flavors.  The Donutella shade was perfect for me.  It gave my lips the perfect natural flush.  My lips had that “I’ve been drinking Kool-Aid” kind of look that great stains deliver.  The color wasn’t too bright, but it definitely brightened up my look.  I can’t wait to use this while creating Spring looks.

The packagaing is so cute.  The Tokidoki characters will grab the attention of anyone who sees you pull this baby out of your bag.

Okay, now for the bad.  If you are looking for a super long-lasting lip stain, you’re not going to find it here.  When I first applied the Gelato Lip Balm Stain, there was a bit of shininess to it.  The shine went away after about 15 minutes or so and then I was left with a gorgeous natural flush.  After about 2 hours or so of wear-time, you can tell that the color starts to fade.  The color still lasts for about another 2 hours or so, but you can tell that as time goes by so does the color.

Now, I have to admit, I wasn’t that put off by the fact that the color started to fade.  I don’t know if this will be true of the other shades, but with Donutella, even as the color started to fade I was still left with very pretty naturally flushed lips.  I guess it depends on how vivid you want your lip color to be.

One thing that baffles me about these new Tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stains is the fact that one of the shades is clear.  Isn’t a stain supposed to leave a stain of color on your lips?  Kind of strange, isn’t it?

The Tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stains are priced at only $9 each.  Amazing price for a great product.

Have you picked up any of the new Tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stains?  Which one do you have your eye on?

Budget Beauty Monday – Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm Review

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 17, 2011

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on AnotherBeautyBlog.com should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

Neutrogena has recently released a couple of new products.  Walgreens had a buy one, get one 50% off sale for Neutrogena this past week so I picked up some of the new items.  The one I was most excited to try out was the new Revitalizing Lip Balm.

The Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm is a sheer tint with SPF 20 that promises “softer, rosier healthier looking lips, even after you take it off!”  It also claims that “in just one week, it helps improve lips’ texture and restores the look of rosiness, so lips look naturally beautiful even after you take it off.”  All of this is made possible thanks to Neutrogena’s exclusive ion2complex.  It is available in 6 shades:  Sheer Shimmer, Healthy Blush, Sunny Berry, Petal Glow, Soft Caramel, and Fresh Fig (you can see a color chart on Neutrogena’s website).

I picked up Petal Glow.  It looked like it fell into the middle of the color range for the shades available.  It is a very sheer plumy-pink.  So what did I think?

I love this Revitalizing Lip Balm!  It is sheer, but gives you just the right amount of color.  You can see from the swatch photo what I’m talking about.  I would classify this as a lip enhancer since you are essentially left with the “your lips but better” look.  It also delivers the perfect amount of shine.  My lips did look revitalized after I put this lip balm on.

There is a pleasant melon scent/taste to this balm.  It doesn’t last very long.  And I love that this balm has SPF 20.  It amazes me that there are still a number of lip products, especially lip balms, out there that don’t have a drop of SPF in them.

I will be using this new Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm all year long, but I think it will be especially perfect for the Spring and Summer when I’m looking for a lighter, more natural looking look.  It will also be great for those days in the pool.

Oh, I almost forgot about this.  The one thing I don’t like about this product is it’s shape.  It has an oval shape unlike the traditional round shape.  I have no idea why Neutrogena chose this shape or if there is a purpose for it.  I think a round lip balm fits lips better than an oval one.  This isn’t a big deal, but just thought I would mention it.

Overall, I really liked this product.  The lip balm offered a nice sheer tint to my lips with just the right amount of shine.  It also felt like it was moisturizing my lips.  I’ve been using this product for about a week, but I can’t say that I’ve noticed a change in texture or rosiness.  However, I don’t think my lips were in bad shape to begin with.  I would be curious to see if you get results if you start with dry or chapped lips.

The retail value for the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm is $7.99.  It’s a little pricey for a lip balm, but Neutrogena is often on sale at Walgreens and CVS so pick it up then.  I also used a $1 coupon to save a little bit more.  It’s currently available at drugstores, grocery stores, and big box stores that sell Neutrogena.  At Walgreens, I found it on a special display at the front of the cosmetics section.  For more information you can check out Neutrogena.com.

Again, sorry about the crappy pictures!

Have you seen any of the new Neutrogena products at your drugstores?  Have you tried the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm?  Are you planning on giving it a try?
