Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo Review And Swatches

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on February 3, 2011

It’s no secret that I am a fan of Tarte Cosmetics.  So when Tarte was on QVC recently during their Beautiful You, Try Something New event I was very happy to see a ton of new items.  I showed a little restraint, but I still picked up a bunch of new products from Tarte.  Of the new products I have received so far, I would have to say that the Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo is my favorite.

The Achiote Duo features a Tarte Cheek Tint in a beautiful mirrored compact as well as a new Lip Luster lip crayon both in the peachy-pink Achiote shade.  Tarte claims that both items provide natural looking color and are long-wear products.

When I saw the presentation on the Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo, I was immediately sold.  The color looked great on the models and given my love for Tarte I knew the quality would be there.  This duo did not disappoint.  The color is amazing and gives me such a natural look that would make you say “you look nice” as opposed to your make-up looks nice,” you know what I mean?

At first look, the Achiote shade looks very pink.  But after you apply the products, you see that it is much more of a peachy-pink shade.  Both the cheek tint and the lip luster appear to have a lot of shimmer, at first look.  The lip luster does have a touch of shimmer when applied, but the cheek tint doesn’t really have any shimmer when applied.  The look of the cheek tint on the skin is very similar to that of the Tarte Cheek Stains; that is it leaves you with a nice glow.  The swatch pictures do not do this shade justice!

I love the new Tarte Lip Lusters.  It felt so smooth and creamy when I applied it to my lips.  It really does combine the best of lipsticks and lipglosses in that it has a creamy feel and coverage like a lipstick but the shine of a gloss.  Of course, we’re not talking about high shine here.  Luster really is the best name and description for this product.  There is a very nice minty flavor when you first apply the Lip Luster as well.  It doesn’t last very long, but it is a nice little surprise when you first apply.  There isn’t a tingling feeling or anything like that that you might associate peppermint with.  The color seems to last between 4 and 5 hours for me.

As for the Cheek Tint, this is another homerun.  First off, the compact is really great.  It has a beautiful design on the cover, it contains a nice sized mirror, and it closes securely.  I hate it when you get a compact that doesn’t close well and then you have to worry about opening in your purse, make-up bag, etc. I don’t think you will have that problem with this compact.  As I already said, the finish on this product is very similar to that of Tarte Cheek Stains.  Honestly, I don’t know why this product is a “Cheek Tint” and not a “Cheek Stain” because for me the look and wear-time is the same as the Cheek Stains.  The only difference is that it is housed in a compact and not the push-up stick.  When applied, you are left with a beautiful, natural glow.  I have used this Cheek Tint everyday since I have gotten it and it has paired well with a wide range of colors and looks.  For me, the color lasts at least 8 hours (that’s when I stopped checking the mirror and my watch).

Both the Cheek Tint and Lip Luster are sheer, but buildable.  A little goes a long way, especially if you’re going for the natural glow look.  The Achiote color is a very flattering shade that should work for most skin types.

Overall, I absolutely LOVE the new Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo.  The color is so gorgeous and really leaves you with such a natural glow.  It will be perfect for the upcoming Spring and Summer.  And it’s not just the color that I love, it’s the products themselves.  I already picked up 2 more of the Lip Lusters which I will post a review and swatches for later.

The Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo is available at QVC.com for $35 with a retail value of $49. During Beautiful You, Try Something New, I picked this up for $28.93. Having tried this duo out, I would pick it up at $35 in a heartbeat.

Did you pick up the Tarte Achiote Cheek Tint & Lip Luster Duo?  Have you tried any of the new Tarte Lip Lusters?  What do you think?

Too Faced Girls Dig Deals

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 1, 2010

After the damage I did on Black Friday and Cyber Monday I swore to myself I wouldn’t buy anything else this week.  Why oh why did I look at the new sale items at Sephora???  I’m pretty sure this is new to the sale section, but truthfully, I could have missed it over the past few weeks.  I saw the Too Faced Girls Dig Deals for only $20 and I had to have it.

Too Faced Girls Dig Deals features a Lip of Luxury in Cougar (mocha shimmer), 3 0.28 oz Lockdown Creaseless Eye Shadow in Jailbait (shimmering pale pink), Dramarama (shimmering chocolate brown), I’m Guilty (shimmering teal blue), an 0.08 oz Girls Dig Pearls in Mermaid (pinky beige), and a 0.27 oz Lash Injection Pinpoint Mascara.  It has a retail value of $115 but has been marked down to only $20!!!  How crazy is that???

Can you believe I have never tried the Too Faced Lockdown Creaseless Eye Shadows?  I have heard nothing but great things about them, but every time I went to go and pick them up, I was lured away by some other beauty product.  Then they became impossible to find at actual stores, and then I totally forgot about them.  Now I’m glad I waited and forgot about them because at $20, this set is an absolute steal.

I’m sorry, but I cannot get over this $20 price tag.  Are you tired of hearing me say, “This would make a great Christmas gift” yet?  Sorry, but this would make a great Christmas gift!!!

I just put my order in.  I also picked up some Bliss Hand Cream Duo. I love the Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream, but have never tried the Blood Orange Hand Cream before so I’m excited to give that a try. Since I was over $25, I also used coupon / promo code GETAWAY and got a travel bag packed full of samples.

What do you think of the Too Faced Girls Dig Deals collection?  Can you believe the $20 price tag?

And The Country’s Most Popular Lipstick is…

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 16, 2010

The Popularity Issue of Bloomberg Businessweek came out this past weekend.  If you’ve never read Businessweek, I highly recommend it.  There is so much interesting information in it.  Whenever I’m bored I frequently end up on Businessweek.com.  Anyhoo, one of the items they looked at in the popularity issue was lipstick.  Can you guess what the United States’ most popular lipstick brand is?  I’ll give you a hint:  It’s a drugstore brand.  Of the more than $300 million Americans spent on lipsticks last year, about a third was on Revlon.

I guess I’m not that surprised because I’ve been reading more and more good things about Revlon’s lip products.  The best-selling lipstick was the shade SoftSilver Rose.  I waited until now to post this instead of on Friday when I first saw this article because I wanted to run out and pick up a tube of SoftSilver Rose to share a swatch.  Let me just tell you, I don’t really understand how this is their best-selling shade because it was a little frosty looking to me.  Needless to say, I didn’t buy the lipstick because I knew there was no way I was going to wear it.

After doing a little research, I discovered that Revlon’s SoftSilver Rose also won a 2010 Allure Reader’s Choice Award. What???  How did this frosted shade win???  I’m just shocked that a shade that isn’t universally flattering would win such appraise.

Are you a fan of Revlon’s lipsticks?  What’s your favorite shade?  Feel free to comment.

NARS Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on June 22, 2010

Summer is here and the fresh-faced less make-up look is everywhere.  Unless you’re a cast member of Jersey Shore, Jerseylicious, or Jersey Couture and you don’t understand what subtle make-up means.  Off topic…did you see that episode of Jerseylicious where two of the girls were unknowingly sent for make-unders, but as soon as they got them they went back to the hotel and proceeded to put pounds of foundation, eyeliner, and bronzer on?  It was too funny.  Okay, back to the post.  One of the things that I love about summer is that cosmetics companies often release new summer friendly products to help create that natural look.  Although, isn’t it funny that we need make-up to create the natural look?  Anyways, NARS has come out with a new summertime lip product to help create the natural look – NARS Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment.

Available in six sheer shades (Aurore – Seashell Pink, Paloma – Cantaloupe, Angelique – Strawberry, Greta- Mauve, Lara – Pastel Pink, and Bianca – Pearl), NARS Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment is a great summer lip color product.  The sheer shades offer just a hint of color, but the texture is so smooth and creamy that it makes your lips appear more supple.  It is the perfect complement for the natural summertime look.

As I have already said, these are definately sheer shades.  Depending on the natural color of your lips, some of these shades are harder to see on your lips than others.  When I was testing the swatches in the store, many looked gorgeous on my arm but were much more faint on my lips.  Just something to keep in mind, especially if you have naturally darker toned lips.

The staying power of Pure Sheer is below average in my opinion.  I was able to see the color on my lips for about two or three hours.  After that it was time to reapply.  To me, that is not enough staying power to justify the $25 price tag.  Two to three hours is the staying power I expect from a more affordable drugstore brand, not a $25 lip product.

As for the “treatment” claim of this product.  I don’t think it really lives up as a treatment.  While it felt nice on my lips, my lips don’t feel any more moisturized or soft as a result of NARS Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment.  My lips weren’t that dry to begin with, so I can’t see this being a saving grace to a chronic dry/chapped lips sufferer.

If you’re a loyal NARS follower, I’m sure you’ll be all over Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment.  But at $25 a pop, I think these are a little pricey when there are a number of products that will offer similar results at a fraction of the cost.  I did love the sheer natural color that was left on my lips, but still don’t think that was enough to justify the cost.
