New Smashbox Violet Vixen Kit

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 24, 2011

While the holiday season is usually the time of year that cosmetics companies go all out with amazing kits and palettes, it seems like a lot of companies are trying to offer similar products during the rest of the year.  To that I say, bring it on!  With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, a lot of companies are releasing items to help make your irresistible to your Valentine!  Smashbox has just released a new kit perfect for the occasion:  the Violet Vixen Kit.

The Violet Vixen kit features Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Tempt, an Eye Shadow Quad in Charm (a quad of 4 gorgeous purple shades), a Lip Enhancing Gloss in Spellbound (a peachy-pink), and a deluxe sample of Lash DNA Mascara.

It should be of no surprise that I am loving the eye shadow quad.  Give me one purple eye shadow and I’m happy, give me 4 and I’m over the moon (although, one shade is more of a gray while the other is a bone shade, but they all tie together so well!).

Has anyone tried the Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara before?  I haven’t tried it yet.  I have to be honest, I’ve been rather turned off from Smashbox mascaras ever since I tried the Bionic Mascara.  Talk about a runny mess.  I don’t think I truly experienced “racoon eyes” until I wore Bionic.  Needless to say, I haven’t been excited to test out another Smashbox mascara since then.

The peachy-pink Spellbound lip gloss looks like the perfect shade of this kit.  Is it me or do kits often times feature bold glosses that don’t necessarily compliment the rest of the look?  The beauty rule (even though I don’t always follow it) is toned down lips when wearing a more dramatic eye.  With this kit, you can follow that rule!

The Violet Vixen Kit is new and only available at It’s priced at $42 with a value of $89.

Are you liking the vibe from the Violet Vixen Kit?  Or are you suffering from purple overload?

Tarte Amazonian Clay Infused Volumizing Mascara Duo

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 17, 2011

This coming Friday, January 21st, QVC is having a 24 hour beauty extravaganza. is offering a sneak peek at some items and is offering special prices on advance orders for others.  There are also a bunch of new items launching.  One that really caught my eye is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Infused Volumizing Mascara Duo.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Infused Volumizing Mascara is infused with Amazonian clay, the ingredient that Tarte is turning to for all of its latest releases.  If you have been following Tarte, you know that they claim that the Amazonian clay restores hydration and texture in your skin.  With this new mascara, they promise that, just like with your skin, the clay will moisturize, replenish, strengthen, and thicken your lashes.

Everyone knows that my go-to mascara is Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes.  It makes my lashes look so full and thick and has such an intense black color without any smudging or fallout.  Given my love for LCL, I am curious about htis new Amazonian Clay Infused Volumizing Mascara.  The only problem is that I just ordered 2 LCL mascaras a few weeks ago.  I’m a little hesitant to order 2 more mascaras right away.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Infused Volumizing Mascara Duo is one of the items that is available for a special advanced order price. If you order today, January 17th, the price is only $23.14.  The QVC price will be $28 with a retail value of $38.  Tarte cosmetics will be on multiple times throughout the “The Beautiful You, Try Something New” QVC 24-hour beauty event this coming Friday.  If you’re a Tarte girl, make sure you check it out.

You can find all of the sneak peek items for the “The Beautiful You, Try Something New” event here.

Are you a fan of Tarte Cosmetics? Are you loving their use of the Amazonian Clay in their products?  Interested in picking up the Amazonian Clay Infused Volumizing Mascara?

Too Faced Girls Dig Deals

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 1, 2010

After the damage I did on Black Friday and Cyber Monday I swore to myself I wouldn’t buy anything else this week.  Why oh why did I look at the new sale items at Sephora???  I’m pretty sure this is new to the sale section, but truthfully, I could have missed it over the past few weeks.  I saw the Too Faced Girls Dig Deals for only $20 and I had to have it.

Too Faced Girls Dig Deals features a Lip of Luxury in Cougar (mocha shimmer), 3 0.28 oz Lockdown Creaseless Eye Shadow in Jailbait (shimmering pale pink), Dramarama (shimmering chocolate brown), I’m Guilty (shimmering teal blue), an 0.08 oz Girls Dig Pearls in Mermaid (pinky beige), and a 0.27 oz Lash Injection Pinpoint Mascara.  It has a retail value of $115 but has been marked down to only $20!!!  How crazy is that???

Can you believe I have never tried the Too Faced Lockdown Creaseless Eye Shadows?  I have heard nothing but great things about them, but every time I went to go and pick them up, I was lured away by some other beauty product.  Then they became impossible to find at actual stores, and then I totally forgot about them.  Now I’m glad I waited and forgot about them because at $20, this set is an absolute steal.

I’m sorry, but I cannot get over this $20 price tag.  Are you tired of hearing me say, “This would make a great Christmas gift” yet?  Sorry, but this would make a great Christmas gift!!!

I just put my order in.  I also picked up some Bliss Hand Cream Duo. I love the Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream, but have never tried the Blood Orange Hand Cream before so I’m excited to give that a try. Since I was over $25, I also used coupon / promo code GETAWAY and got a travel bag packed full of samples.

What do you think of the Too Faced Girls Dig Deals collection?  Can you believe the $20 price tag?

Some More Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Info

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on November 4, 2010

***Don’t forget to enter our Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Palette Giveway!***

If you haven’t heard, the Wet N Wild Holiday 2010 Pixie Palettes have been spotted at numerous Walgreens.  I personally spotted some today while I ran to pick up some cold meds.  But the display wasn’t where I thought it was going to be.  When I first found the Wet N Wild Holiday Palettes at Jewel, they were in the traditional on a shelf kind of display.  Not so at the Walgreens I was at today.  Nope, at Walgreens, I found the Wet N Wild Holiday Collection hanging on the side of an end cap.  So if you’ve only been looking on the shelves towards the front of the Walgreens beauty section and have been coming up empty-handed, check the sides of the end caps.

Not only did I find the Wet N Wild Holiday Pixie Palettes at Walgreens.  I also found some Wet N Wild Bonus Packages that were released for the holidays.  There were 3 bonus packs of which, I ended up taking 2 of them home.  The bonus packs feature Wet N Wild Mega Length Mascara and a Coloricon eye shadow single, Wet N Wild Mega Volume Mascara and a Coloricon eye shadow single, and another type of Wet N Wild mascara and an eyeliner (I didn’t get this last bonus pack and misplaced the piece of paper I wrote the info on).  These bonus packs are valued at $5, but are priced at $2.99!  Even better, they are included in the 50% off sale so that makes then $1.50 during the sale!  Note that these weren’t marked as half off, at least at the Walgreens I was at, but they do ring up half off.  I haven’t tried the mascaras yet, but I will obviously post a review once I do.  The Wet N Wild Holiday display also contained sparkly nail polishes that came with a free top coat for $1.99 and were also part of the half off sale.  Not being a fan of nail polish, I can’t give you too much info on those.

Urban Decay Black Lite Special

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 16, 2010

I found a little goodie while browsing the internet today that I wanted to share with everyone.  Urban Decay Black Lite Special is a great little duo that I must get my hands on.  The duo features a  0.03 oz 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero and a 0.09 oz Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara.  I’ve already said I’m a huge lover of the UD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, but I’ve never tried the UD Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara.  I’ve been intrigued and have wanted to give it a try since I’ve been hearing great things about it, but I haven’t wanted to shell out the $22 a full-sized version costs.  But no worries because the UD Black Lite Special is only $14!!!

The versions offered in the Black Lite Special are obviously not full-sized products, but they aren’t mini-sized either.  The 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil is .03 oz (full size is .04 oz) and the Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara is .09 oz (full size is .41 oz).  Well worth the $14 price tag if you ask me.

This duo is great for a lot of reasons.  If you’re already a lover of both of these Urban Decay products, these travel size versions are perfect for your purse, to leave in your desk at the office, or to take along when traveling.  If you’ve never tried either of these products, this is a great way to finally give the a go.  The affordability of this duo makes this an excellent stocking stuffer idea or a secret santa gift for the office.

What do you think of the Urban Decay Black Lite Special?  Will you be picking any up for gifts for the holiday season?

Sephora Collection Endless Color Blockbuster Palette

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 25, 2010

The latest Sephora Blockbuster Palette has been released.  As per usual, this palette is not lacking when it comes to product.  The Blockbuster Palette boasts 98 eyeshadows, 70 shiny lip glosses, 6 cream eyeliner, 2 lip liners, 3 eyeliners, a mascara, and 4 applicators…okay maybe it’s lacking in the applicators department.  Seriously, 4 applicators for 98 eyeshadows???  It’s like when the McDonald’s drive-thru people give you 2 packets of ketchup for 6 orders of fries.  It’s all housed in a case made to look like a Sephora shopping bag.  This is the biggest Blockbuster Palette ever.  Can you believe it’s only been five years since the Blockbuster Palette was first introduced?  The retail value of this palette is $435 which makes the price of $48 an absolute steal.  Oh, and how adorable is the packaging?  Nothing gets me as excited as when I see that beautiful Sephora shopping bag!  I’m contemplating picking up the Blockbuster Palette just because of the packaging!

There’s also an added bonus to picking up the Sephora Blockbuster Palette this year.  From the Sephora website:  “Each 2010 SEPHORA COLLECTION Collector’s Edition Makeup Palette includes a silver ticket that automatically enters you in the SEPHORA COLLECTION Silver Ticket Sweepstakes. Hang on to it and visit on January 1, 2011 to see if you have the winning silver ticket. Whoever has it will receive the Grand Prize, a $1,000 Sephora shopping spree, one-year supply of SEPHORA COLLECTION products, and more.”

If you’re not planning on picking up the Blockbuster Palette but still want a crack at the Silver Ticket Sweepstakes it’s all good.  “To receive a ticket without purchase, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Silver Ticket Request, Sephora USA, Inc., 525 Market St., 32nd Fl., SF, CA 94105 to be received by 12/15/10 (VT and Canadian residents may omit return postage).”

A quick word about Sephora brand cosmetics.  The Sephora brand itself is not what I would consider high-end cosmetics.  They are not horrible, but not everyone loves them.  The staying power is not as great as say MAC or NARS.  Some people also find the formula of the shadows to be a little rough.  Just something to keep in mind if you are not familiar with the brand.

Will you be picking up the Sephora Collection Endless Color Blockbuster Palette?  Let us know!

Covergirl LashBlast Fusion Mascara Review

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 18, 2010

***Pictures are coming!  I’m waiting for my Sweetie to come home and take some snapshots.  The auto-focus on my camera is focusing on my bangs instead of my eyes when I try to do a self portrait!  Come back to check out the photos.***

I am a BzzAgent.  For those of you who are unaware of BzzAgent it is a company that promotes word of mouth campaigns through everyday people like you and me.  If you are selected to be part of a given BzzAgent campaign, you’re usually sent a product to test out as well as a few coupons or samples to pass out to others to get the word out there about a new product.

Anyhoo, I was recently chosen to participate in the BzzAgent Covergirl LashBlast Fusion Mascara campaign.

From Covergirl:  “COVERGIRL LashBlast Fusion is the perfect fusion of LashBlast’s super-volumizing brush and a new buildable fiber-stretch lengthening formula that works together to thicken and extend the look of individual lashes.  So no more having to pick between lashes with volume or length.  And no more having to use two mascaras at once (enjoy that extra minute of me-time, ladies).”

Long story short, using Covergirl LashBlast Fusion mascara you’ll get both longer and thicker lashes.  Sounds great, right?  Who wouldn’t want longer and thicker lashes?

First, a little about the mascara and packaging.  I received LashBlast Fusion mascara in 860 Very Black.  I liked the packaging immediately.  The purple color is vibrant and happy.  Like the other Fusion mascaras, the LashBlast Fusion mascara is applied with a rubber bristled brush.  Covergirl states that the brush is an “oversized volumizing brush.”  The mascara itself is a “fiberstretching lengthening formula.”  So the brush is responsible for the volume and the mascara is responsible for the lengthening.  In order to show off the fancy-dancy brush, LashBlast Fusion comes with the brush outside of the mascara.

Now, a little background on my eyelashes.  While I was not blessed with naturally super-long luscious lashes, I don’t think my lashes are that bad.  They are definitely visible without mascara and I would say they are about medium length.

Now, let’s get on to applying and wearing the LashBlast Fusion mascara!  When I went to apply the mascara I will admit that the big, fat tube felt kind of clunky in my hand most likely due to the fact that my normal mascara (Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes) is not as wide.  After a few uses I was more used to it.  The mascara went on nice and smooth.  I applied multiple coats, but I couldn’t tell you how many.  I do not count coats, I simply just apply in rapid motion until it looks good.

When I finished applying I was happy with some of what I saw in the mirror.  My lashes were 100% clump free.  They were very defined, but they didn’t seem very volumized or lengthened.  What the hell?  Where were these lush and full lashes I was promised?  After trying LashBlast Fusion everyday for a few more days I think I may have determined what went wrong with the first application.  Like I said earlier, LashBlast Fusion comes packaged with the brush outside of the tube of mascara.  I think that the brush needs to suck up enough mascara before it is completely effective.  Of course, this is my assumption, but after the brush was in the tube for 24 hours it definitely left me with fuller, longer lashes.

Even though my lashes were longer and fuller, they weren’t “Oh My God” longer and fuller.  The mascara didn’t flake and lasted most of the day.  Given the fact that LashBlast Fusion didn’t provide super glamorous lashes, I wouldn’t recommend this as a special occasion or night-on-the-town mascara.  I would, however, recommend this as an everyday mascara.  It did make my lashes more noticeable without looking vampy.  It was completely clump free and flake free.  All of these attributes make it the perfect everyday mascara for everything from an office setting to running around doing errands.

A downside of LashBlast Fusion mascara is that it is NOT waterproof.  Let me just tell you, it isn’t even close to waterproof.  One of the days I was testing this mascara I jumped in the pool and when I popped back out of the water my Sweetie lovingly referred to me as Alice Cooper.  So, if you’re planning on taking a dip in the pool, lake, ocean, etc. I would rethink wearing LashBlast Fusion.

To sum it up, I would definitely recommend Covergirl LashBlast Fusion mascara as an everyday budget mascara.  It does give you fuller, longer lashes that are clump and flake free, but it lacks the glamour that you would want for special occasions.  It’s not waterproof, so don’t jump in the pool!   Check out for even more information on LashBlast Fusion mascara as well as the whole line.

Disclaimer:  BzzAgent provided me a full size Covergirl LashBlast Fusion mascara for the purpose of this review as well as 5 $2 off coupons to pass out to others so that they could also try Covergirl LashBlast Fusion mascara.  All of the opinions expressed in this review are my own and have in no way been influenced by BzzAgent, Covergirl, or any other company or person.

Top Five Thursdays – Top Five Mascaras

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on June 17, 2010

Happy Thursday!  Just one more day until the weekend.  Thursdays at are Top Five Thursdays.  Every week I’m going to put up a top five list of my favorite beauty products, cosmetics lines, skin care products, eye shadow colors…you get the picture.  These lists are based on my own humble opinion based on my experiences trying tons and tons of beauty products over the years.  So here we go!  I present my Top Five Mascaras.

1.  Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! – This has been my go-to mascara for at least six years.  This 4-in-1 mascara has been referred to as a “push-up bra for lashes” thanks to its ability to lengthen, curl, volumize, and condition.  No other mascara that I’ve tried has been able to give me such dark, full, and sexy lashes.  It also makes it look like I’m wearing mascara.  Added bonus:  all natural ingredients.

2.  Dior DiorShow – Often touted as the holy grail amongst beauty addicts, every make-up obsessed gal has this weapon in her beauty arsenal.  This mascara lengthens, separates, and voluminizes every lash.  It’s the closest thing to false eyelashes that I have ever tried.  Added bonus:  available in three colors (black, brown, blue).

3.  Bare Escentuals Buxom Mascara – The first thing that caught my attention with this mascara is the brush.  It looks like a catepillar…it’s long, thin, and has lots of little “legs”.  Buxom promises to volumize lashes up to 300% and boy does it deliver.  My lashes look so much longer and fuller with just one coat of Buxom.  It lasts all day with no clumping or flaking.  Added bonus:  all natural ingredients.

4.  Lancome Definicils – The thinner brush in this mascara helps to evenly distribute clump free mascara.  My lashes are very defined whenever I use this mascara.  One minor problem is that sometimes this mascara goes on a little wet.  Couple that with the fact that this mascara is definately a lengthening product and the result is sometimes the wet lashes hit my skin and leave little marks.  Not that big of a deal, just make sure you let your lashes dry before you open your eyes wide.  Added bonus: available if five shades (two blacks, two browns, blue).

5.  Too Faced Lash Injection – Truthfully, I may not have tried this mascara had it not been for a sample that I received at Sephora.  When you hear “Lash Injection” you may be thinking that you’re going to get overly dark, dramatic, sexy eyes.  You would be wrong.  The look you’re left with is a very natural look.  The black shade is not extremely dark.  Your lashes do get lenghtened and are extremely defined, but it’s not a vixeny look.  It is clump-free, flake-free mascara that even withstood a dip in the pool.  Added bonus: the mascara forms little tubes around each eyelash that you can actually see when you take the mascara off.

So there you have it, my top five mascaras at the moment.  What do you think?  Did I leave out your favorite mascara?  Do you hate one of my top fives?  Got an idea for the next Top Five Thursday?  Leave a comment and let me know!

MAC Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on June 16, 2010

I know you’re not supposed to buy beauty products just based on their packaging, but I want this MAC Haute & Naughty Lash mascara just because of the packaging!   I’m a sucker for anything with glitter (really…you should see my house at Christmas time).

If you look closely at the picture, when the purple glitter ring is on the mascara wand, it looks like there are less of the fibers on the head.  Do you see it?  Look at the bottom of the head.  This new mascara is supposed to add volume and define lashes.  The rumor is depending on which cap you use (i.e. just pink or pink and purple) the head will be pulled through one of two tubes.  So one will be for separating and lengthening and the other will be for volume.

I am so intrigued by this mascara and cannot wait for it to come out.  It is part of the new fall line and is expected to be in stores by the end of the summer.
