I Hate Computers, Yet I Cannot Live Without Them

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 12, 2011

I woke up this morning eager to post my review and swatches for the new Wet N Wild Coloricon pencils.  I pressed the power button on my computer, heard the fans and motor kick in, and was greeted by a black screen.  After 3 hours of playing around and researching information, I think my power supply has kicked the bucket…at least, I’m hoping that is what it is.  Luckily, I have my laptop and iPhone to keep me company until my desktop is back up and running.  The bad thing is that my laptop doesn’t have a card reader for my digital pictures.  I don’t really think you would like reviews without photos of swatches, would you?  I have ordered a new power supply that should be here in a few days.  Until then, my new Wet N Wild reviews and swatches may be on hold.  I may try to take some new pictures with my iPhone tomorrow, but who knows what the quality on those will be like.  I will say that I’m loving the pencils and would recommend picking them up during the Walgreens sale.  I will have swatches up ASAP!  So sorry about this!  I hope everyone else’s computers are running smoothly!

Budget Beauty Monday – L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 3, 2011

It’s Monday…time for Budget Beauty Monday!!! Let’s face it. After the weekend we usually end up feeling like we ate too much, drank too much, spent too much, and didn’t do enough around the house. So I figure Monday on should feature budget beauty products that won’t break the bank so you won’t feel bad about wanting to run out and get them.

For the last few seasons, L’Oreal has been the official cosmetics sponsor of Project Runway.  On many an episode they prominently promote the HIP (High Intensity Pigments) line of L’Oreal.  If you’re a Project Runway fan, you may recall this past season a whole challenge was to use the L’Oreal HIP Eye Shadow Duos as the inspiration of a design (Mondo won with his fun and funky dress inspired by the Bright eye shadow duos…I loved that look!).

All this time I thought to myself, “I can’t believe they are using such a crappy line of cosmetics on Project Runway.”  Let me explain.  Many years ago when the HIP line was first introduced by L’Oreal I was rather excited.  The way they hyped it made it sound like it would be a drugstore comparison for MAC.  Now I didn’t expect to be an exact dupe for MAC, but I was expecting high pigment and decent staying power.  When HIP was first introduced, only a handful of products and shades were available including this eye color stick that reminded me of those candy lipsticks that I would have as a kid.  Remember them?  It was a hard piece of sugar candy kind of like a Sweettart in a neon plastic lip stick case.  Anyways, I picked up one of these color sticks as well as some sort of loose color pigment, both in a metallic silver shade, to test out.  Oh my God were these things horrible.  The coverage was spotty and the wear time was minimal…we’re talking like an hour.  I was so disgusted that I never gave the L’Oreal HIP line a second thought.  But then it began to pop up on Project Runway and I began to think about it again.  And then after I was blown away by the resurgence of the Wet n Wild Cosmetics brand I thought I should give the HIP line another chance.  I am so extremely glad I did.

The first L’Oreal HIP product I decided to pick up was the Color Chrome Eyeliner.  I’ve been on an eyeliner kick lately so imagine my delight when I saw that the Color Chrome Eyeliners were on clearance at Jewel-Osco (Note to Chicagoland girls:  Jewel-Osco has marked down a ton of drugstore brand cosmetics.  They do this at the end of every year to make room for new collections and colors.  Many items from Wet N Wild, Covergirl, Revlon, L’Oreal, Almay, Physicians Formula, and more have been marked down by 50% or more.).  They had a 50% off clearance tag on them which should have made them $4.99, but at the register they rang up $2.99!  I picked up all four colors:  Violet Volt (metallic purple), Black Shock (metallic black), Gold Charge (metallic gold), and Silver Lightning (metallic silver).

Silver Lightning, Black Shock, Gold Charge, Violet Volt

Oh my God, these L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliners are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!  I cannot believe I have been missing out on these for so long.  First of all, all four of these shades applied like butter.  Seriously, it’s like the eyeliner melted onto my lids.  No tug or pull at all.  If you are an eyeliner novice or still haven’t mastered the art of eyeliner application (don’t be embarrassed, I still have days where it looks like I was being tasered as I applied my liner) these are perfect for you.  They glide right over your lids giving you a very clean line.

Finally!  I get high pigment payout from the High Intensity Pigments line!  So often you see a bright, bold color on a cosmetics item only to see a much more muted color when applied.  Not the case at all with these Color Chrome liners.  The color is bold and the metallic finish is also there.

Talk about lastability.  I applied these in the morning and when I looked in the mirror in the evening they were still there.  These liners didn’t smudge at all.  I rubbed and rubbed at the swatched on my hands as well and they weren’t going anywhere.

Overall, these L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliners give even higher end eyeliners a run for their money.  They apply like a dream, provide a bold metallic color, and last all day.  The retail price for these runs between $8 and $10 depending on the store.  I think they are worth their full cost price, but let’s be honest, you can always get drugstore brands on sale. I can only hope that they will add more shades!  I would even go so far as to say that these are comparable to Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils or the Benefit Eyeliners that I loved in the Femme Metale kit.

Just a quick comment…I know that these eyeliners are an older product, but I still wanted to blog about them for many reasons.  First, they are amazing and deserve the praise.  Second, these are new to me (thanks to my stubbornness) and I know there are probably many other beauty addicts out there who have never given them a try either.  I don’t see anything wrong with giving an older product a review.

Have you tried the L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliners?  How about other HIP items?  Love them?  Hate them?  Let us know!

Leaving On A Jetplane…

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 1, 2010

Just a heads up that it’s going to be a little quiet around here next week.  I’m leaving for Boston tomorrow morning on vacation.  I have a few posts scheduled for next week (hopefully they post this time).  I had planned to do a few more but I just left too much stuff for the last minute.  My bad…And I’m usually not a procrastinator!  But I’ll be back in Chicago next weekend and will resume regular posting then.  I hope you all have a great week!

Stila Girl Travel Palettes – Trendsetting In Tokyo

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on August 7, 2010

***Stila Girl Travel Palette – Trendsetting In Tokyo has been officially released and is now available on See my updated post!***

Stila has introduced a series of palettes called Stila Girl Travel Palettes. A new limited edition palette will be introduced each month through November based on one of the five Stila Girl’s travels. Each Travel Palette will feature four eye shadows and one convertible color. And the best part…Each palette will only cost $10!!! I mean, you can’t even get four eye shadows and a convertible color for $10 at a drugstore! The price is ridiculous (in a good way). The third palette, Trendsetting In Tokyo, has already been released on

Trendsetting In Tokyo is inspired by a Stila Girl’s trip to Tokyo. It features eye shadows in Sake (beige shimmer), Kawai (pink shimmer), Shibuya (blue shimmer), and Peace Sign (black shimmer) and Convertible Color in Sakura.  Unlike Pretty In Paris, I’m excited about this palette.  I’m loving that there are some bolder colors in this palette and I’m loving that they are shimmer shades.  Stila did a fabulous job in selecting colors for this palette that scream Tokyo.  They definately make me think of the vibrant lights, parties, and animation that you think about when you hear “Tokyo.”  I think you’re going to be able to create a lot of different looks given the fact that all of the shades are very different from each other (unlike Pretty In Paris which was just an onslaught of brown, if you ask me). If you haven’t used Stila eye shadows before, they are buildable. By that I mean, you can apply them lightly for a sheerer look or layer them for a bolder look.

Now, if you’re absolutely jonesing for Trendsetting In Tokyo and want it right now from, be prepared because shipping is going to run you $10!!! That’s even more rediculous than the $7.95 that  Sorry Urban Outfitters, you’re crazy if you think I’m essentially going to pay double for Trendsetting In Tokyo.  It won’t be too long before you will be able to get Trendsetting In Tokyo directly from Stila and Sephora.  Oh, and I’ve looked around to see if I could find a coupon code for free shipping or something at Urban Outfitters, but sadly there are none to be found.  Feel free to post if anyone finds something!

And Then Life Gets In The Way

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on July 26, 2010

Hey guys.  Let me just tell you…lately, when it rains it pours around here.  A few weeks ago we had a death in the family.  Although it was the result of a long battle with cancer, it was still somewhat unexpected.  It is especially hard to lose someone when they are still in their twenties.  Needless to say, beauty topics were just not at the top of my list of priorities at the time.  I did have some posts scheduled to automatically post, but wouldn’t you know that technology failed me and for some reason they didn’t post.  Fast forward to this past week.  I was all ready to get back into the swing of things but then multiple car problems resulting in trips to the mechanic (twice), a flooded basement at my parent’s house (not once, but twice!), and a horrible backache from cleaning out the basement/crawl space once again derailed me.  I haven’t even put make-up on in the last week and a half, let alone thought about beauty happenings.  But I am finally ready to get back into things.  There is so much happening and so much to talk about…who else is excited about Project Runway starting up again this week???  I know you guys have been visiting…I do see you on my stat thingy.  Get ready for a bunch of new posts!
