Smashbox Create Your Own Kit

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on February 8, 2011

I know one of the common complaints among beauty kit purchasers is the fact that many kits feature at least one item you don’t want or won’t use or have too many of.  Now, I know at lot of us still pick up these kits due to the fact that it’s still a great deal for the items you will use.  I’m happy to see that more cosmetics companies are hopping on the create-your-own kit bandwagon.  You may recall that I took advantage of the Bare Escentuals create-your-own kit during the holiday season to pick up 3 of the High Shine eye shadows for about the cost of 2.  Smashbox is the latest cosmetics company to offer a Create Your Own Kit.

This week only, you can Create Your Own Kit on Smashbox.com.  You start with a gold make-up bag and then select three items to fill it up with.  You can choose any combination of Eye Shadow Trios, Blush Rush blushes, and Lip Enhancing Glosses.  You can pick one of each or 3 shadow trios or 2 blushes and a lip gloss and so on.  Depending on the combo of products you go with, the kit has a value of up to $84.

If you are a fan of particular shades from Smashbox, this is a great opportunity to get exactly what you want at a pretty great discount.

Are you a fan of the create-your-own-kit idea?

Stila Make Me Blush Set

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 20, 2011

Remember a few days ago when I posted about Stila’s adorable Make Me Blush palette?  Well after doing a little searching I found this even more adorable Stila Make Me Blush Set on Sephora.com.  The Stila Make Me Blush Set not only features the Make Me Blush Palette but also 2 Stila Lip Glazes in Hugs and Kisses.  Seriously, can you just die?

Now I need another lip gloss like I need a hole in the head.  Honest to God, as I was driving home from Bath & Body Works today with 4 new lip glosses for my stash I thought, “How many lips do I have?  How am I ever going to use up all of the glosses I already have and I just picked up 4 more?!?!”  But how can you resist these cute Hugs and Kisses Lip Glazes?

The Make Me Blush Set is currently listed as not in stock, but I would have to imagine that it’s only a matter of days until it is available.  It will be available for $20.

Are you loving this Make Me Blush Set?  Would you prefer this set or would you rather just pick up the blush itself?

New Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss Lip Gels Review And Swatches

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 11, 2011

While I usually save drugstore beauty products for Budget Beauty Monday, I am trying to swatch and review as many of the new 2011 Wet N Wild collection as possible this week so that you can see swatches and get my humble opinion while they are half off at Walgreens.  Hopefully you all loved the swatches from yesterday’s Coloricon Shadow Trios review post.  I still can’t put those suckers down!  Today I have a review and swatches for the new formula Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss Lip Gels.

Left - Right: Through The Looking Glass 309A, This Too Shall Glass 310A, Glass Confusion 311A, Glass Is In Session 312A, 3, 2, 1, Glass-t Off! 313A, Mow The Glass 314A

The new 2011 Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss Lip Gels are available in 6 shades:  Through The Looking Glass 309A (clear), This Too Shall Glass 310A (shimmery pale peach-pink), Glass Confusion 311A (frosty mauve), Glass Is In Session 312A (shimmery hot pink), 3, 2, 1, Glass-t Off 313A (shimmery red), and Mow The Glass 314A (sheer peach).

All of these colors are sheer, but buildable.  The swatches on my arm show the gloss as it looks just out of the tube thus they are more pigmented here.  Once you blend them out on your lips and the color starts to melt into your lips they get much sheerer.  This is another “your lips but better” product in my opinion.

Swatches With Flash (Left - Right): Through The Looking Glass 309A, This Too Shall Glass 310A, Glass Confusion 311A, Glass Is In Session 312A, 3, 2, 1, Glass-t Off! 313A, Mow The Glass 314A

Swatches Without Flash (Left - Right): Through The Looking Glass 309A, This Too Shall Glass 310A, Glass Confusion 311A, Glass Is In Session 312A, 3, 2, 1, Glass-t Off! 313A, Mow The Glass 314A

Of the 6 shades, This Too Shall Glass 310A and Glass Confusion 311A offer a frostier finish compared to the other shades.  Don’t get scared, this is not an overly frosty finish.  It’s a milkier finish so it’s just not as sheer on the lips as the other shades.

While all of the colors are somewhat sheer, Mow The Glass 314A is extremely sheer.  There really is just the most subtle hint of color when swatched on my arm and that color is almost non-existent when applied to your lips.  If you have naturally lighter lips than you may see more color when applied, but I don’t fall into that category.  The gloss still looks beautiful on because it does enhance the look of your lips.

The 2011 Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss Lip Gels boast a new and improved formula.  They are infused with nutrients, oils, vitamins, and antioxidants that work to moisturize your lips.  I have to say, I am loving the way that my lips feel with this gloss on.  The gloss feels like butter melting into your lips.  It feels like it creates a barrier that encases your lips.

The Glassy Gloss Lip Gels also promise to give your lips a high, glassy shine.  I can’t say that my lips were given an ulta shine per se, but there is definitely a very nice shine as a result of these glosses.

The texture and feel of these glosses is phenomenal.  Although they feel like they create a barrier that encases you lips, they don’t feel heavy at all.  They really do feel like butter melting into you lips.  The shimmer glosses do not feel gritty at all.

When first applied, the Glass Gloss Lip Gels do have a somewhat fruity scent to them.  It’s not a very strong scent, but it is there.  It doesn’t last very long, but I thought I would throw that information out there in case you are easily turned off by certain scents.  But really, after a few minutes the scent is gone.

As for staying power, I get about 3 or 4 hours out of each application.  At this price point, I think that 3 to 4 hours is very good.

You may recall Wet N Wild’s old Glassy Gloss Lip Gels.  They were lipgloss squeeze tubes that were sold in a silver box.  The new 2011 Glassy Gloss Lip Gels still come in the squeeze tubes but they are no longer housed in the box.  Way to cut back on unnecessary packaging, Wet N Wild.  Unfortunately, Wet N Wild also cut back on the size of the Lip Gels.  The old Glassy Gloss Lip Gels were .5 oz while the new ones are only .4 oz.

Left - Right: New Glassy Gloss Lip Gel, Old Glassy Gloss Lip Gel

Compared to the old version Glassy Gloss Lip Gels, the new 2011 version is a million times better.  The biggest difference is the pigmentation.  The shades of the old formula Glassy Gloss Lip Gels that I personally have tried have no color to them.  While they look colorful in their tubes, applied it looked like it was a clear gloss with some colored glitter.  The 2011 version has pigmented gloss, with the exception of Through The Looking Glass which is clear.  So if you tried the old Glassy Gloss Lip Gels and were disappointed with their lack of color, give these a try.  I will also say that the new Lip Gels feel creamier and smoother as well, but honestly, I didn’t think the old formula was that bad either.

Overall, I absolutely love these new Wet N Wild Glass Gloss Lip Gels.  These sheer glosses give just the right amount of color to naturally enhance your lips.  If you are a fan of lipstains, I can see these pairing up perfectly to add a little moisture and shine throughout the day.  At this price point ($2.99), you can justify having multiple tubes to stash all over the house, car, office, purse, briefcase, etc.  I highly recommend these new Glassy Gloss Lip Gels.

The retail price for the Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss Lip Gels is $2.99.  Get them on sale this week at Walgreens (thru January 15th, 2011) during the half off Wet N Wild sale for only $1.49.

Have you picked up any of the new 2011 Wet N Wild cosmetics products yet?  Have you tried the Glassy Gloss Lip Gels?  What are your thoughts?

Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo Review

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 6, 2011

As much of a Bare Escentuals and Buxom Lipgloss addict as I am, I never ordered the original Lisa and Leslie Buxom Lipglosses.  I had always heard a ton of raves about them, but at the time I just didn’t need more Buxom glosses in the light pink shades.  But recently I had been scrapping the bottom of my light and medium pink Buxom gloss tubes and figured it was time to re-stock.  It seems like most of the Buxom sets that I had picked up in the past year had darker colors so my lighter shade supply had really dwindled.  When I saw the new Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo I decided to take the plunge. I am so glad I did.  After playing around with them for a few weeks I finally have a review for you all complete with swatches!

The Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo features 2 full-sized Buxom lipglosses in Lisa Couture (a soft pink nude shimmer)  and Leslie Couture (a dreamy mauve glisten).  The glosses are named after BFFs Leslie Blodgett (CEO of Bare Minerals) and Lisa Robertson (QVC host).  What makes these couture is the fact that they are packed with shimmer, thus amping them up to couture status.

I absolutely love both the Lisa and Leslie shades.  Both are sheer, with a hint of color.  Applied to lips they give your lips the “your lips but better” look.  Given this, these shades should work with just about any skintone.

Leslie and Lisa In The Sun (Yikes! The zoom on the camera makes my hands look so old!)

Leslie and Lisa With The Camera Flash

Now, I have to be honest, if you look at the swatches on my hands, you can see the difference and color between Lisa and Leslie.  Leslie is darker while Lisa is lighter.  But when you apply these to your lips, there isn’t much of a difference in color.  There is a slight difference, but I don’t think anyone would notice if you wore Lisa and then 15 minutes later changed to Leslie, you know what I mean?  Some people might be put off by that if they are looking to have dramatically different shades of glosses in their collection.  Personally, I am definitely a fan of the lighter pink glosses and use them pretty much everyday so having 2 similar shades is a good thing.  Oh, and if you’re a big fan of Buxom, Leslie seems pretty similar to Gabby if you ask me, although Gabby is slightly darker.

Everything about the Lisa and Leslie Buxom glosses is the same as every other Buxom gloss.  They wear decently (about 4 hours or so while eating and drinking) and they have the Buxom tingle.

Overall, I absolutely love the Lisa and Leslie Couture Lip Duo.  The colors are great and make my lips absolutely gorgeous.  They are packed full of sparkle and shine while still coming off as elegant and adult like…no teeny-bopper glitter look here.  I would highly recommend these to anyone.

Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo is a limited edition set that is Customer Top Rated on QVC.  It’s priced at $26 with a retail value of $36.

Did you pick up the Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo during Bare Minerals visit to QVC in December?  What do you think?

Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on December 6, 2010

The Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips Lisa And Leslie Couture Lip Duo is finally available on QVC. Bare Escentuals fans have been waiting for this duo for a while now. These are brand new Lisa and Leslie Buxoms and they look fantabulous!

The Lisa Couture Buxom is a soft pink nude shimmer while the Leslie Couture Buxom is a dreamy mauve glisten.

Leslie has been talking about this Buxom duo for awhile and I really thought I was going to pass on this.  God knows I have a ton of Buxoms, but I can’t help it!  I just placed my order!  I will of course post swatch photos once they are delivered.

The Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips Lisa And Lelise Couture Lip Duo is currently Featured Priced at $23.76 (regular QVC price is $26, retail value is $36).

Bare Escentuals Beyond Gorgeous Review

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 29, 2010

It’s finally sunny again in Chicago, so I can take some decent photos of all of the new kits and items that I have been hauling over the past few weeks.  One of the first Holiday 2010 kits I picked up was the Bare Escentuals / Bare Minerals Beyond Gorgeous gift set.  If you recall, I was quite taken with the bright pink brush handles and bright pink ribbon toppers.  Let me just tell you, this kit goes so far beyond the “playful touches” that first got my attention.

As a recap, the Bare Escentuals Beyon Gorgeous set includes an Original Mineral Veil (size: medium), a Satin Ruffle Eyecolor (nude satin) (size: small), a Frills Eyecolor (charcoal moss) (size: small), a Pink Ribbon Blush (sheer raspberry pink) (size: medium), a 100% Natural Lipgloss in Icing (sheer playful pink), a Big & Bright Eyeliner in Charbronze (antique brown), a Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara in Black, an Eye Shaping Brush, and a Flawless Application Face Brush all housed in a keepsake box.

Let’s start with the eye colors.  You get 2 of them:  Satin Ruffle and Frills.  Satin Ruffle is described as a nude satin while Frills is described as a charcoal moss.  I think these descriptions fit perfectly.  And they go together perfectly.  A beautiful holiday smoky eye is easily achieved with these 2 shades.  Of course, they look great on their own too.  They are also versatile enough to fit with tons of other shades that you probably already have in your beauty arsenal.

Top:  100% Natural Lip Gloss in Icing and Big & Bright Eyeliner in Charbronze  Bottom: Mineral Veil, Pink Ribbon Blush, Satin Ruffle Eye Color, Frills Eye Color

In The Sunlight

The eye colors are listed as just that, eye colors.  They aren’t classified as a Glimmer or a Glimpse, but they do have  a nice shimmer to them.  They are not overly shimmery/glittery, but if you get caught in the right light you see a beautiful shimmer.  You can kind of see this in the swatch picture I posted that I took in the sun.

In BE Beyond Gorgeous, you receive a blush in Pink Ribbon, a sheer raspberry color.  The swatches of Pink Ribbon may look a little scary.  It comes off as a frosty pink.  That’s not really accurate.  In the swatch photos, I really laid the blush color on so that you can see it.  But, like most Bare Escentuals products, Pink Ribbon blush is a very buildable product.  If you put on a normal amount, it leaves your cheeks with a gorgeous glow.

The blush is similar to the eye color when it comes to the glitter/shimmer factor.  It is not overly shimmery/glittery, but in the right light there is definitely a shimmer effect.  Again, it’s somewhat visible in the swatch photo that was taken in the sunlight.

The lip gloss included in this set is a 100% Natural Lipgloss in Icing (sheer playful pink).  I have to say, I’m usually not a big fan of the 100% Natural Lipglosses mostly because if I have a choice in BE glosses, I’m reaching for a Buxom gloss.  But this Icing shade is fabulous.  It is a sheer light pink.  It doesn’t offer a lot in the way of color, but it gives your lips beautiful shine with a little bit of shimmer.  Just like the eye and face colors, the lip color doesn’t have a lot of shimmer, just the right amount.

The other make-up items in this set (Mineral Veil, Big & Bright Eyeliner, and Flawless Definition Mascara) don’t really need to be talked about in great length.  They are the quality is the same as they normally are.  I will say that the eye liner is a nice brown shade.  It’s not a ground breaking shade of brown, but it pairs with the shadows very nicely.

The brushes really don’t need to be discussed either.  I love love LOVE the pink handles.  The brushes are of the same quality as they normally are.

Beyond Gorgeous kind of reminds me of a fancier version of The Girlfriend Collection.  The colors are similar, but Beyond Gorgeous offers more shimmer.  Like the way you reach for the Girlfriend Collection for everyday, Beyond Gorgeous will be that kit you reach for on all of those special occasions and nights out.

Beyond Gorgeous is available BareEscentuals.com.  It has also recently popped up on Beauty.com. It is not available at Sephora.  It is priced at $54 with a value of $145.

I have to be honest.  I ordered this kit before Shimmer & Shine was available.  Of course, like 2 days after I ordered Beyond Gorgeous, Shimmer & Shine popped up and I immediately felt buyers remorse.  Shimmer & Shine looked like so much more product and so much more fun.  I started feeling like I just threw away $50.  After I received Beyond Gorgeous, any feeling of buyers remorse immediately subsided.  I am thrilled that I picked up Beyond Gorgeous.  It is a beautiful kit and I highly recommend it.

Have you picked up the Bare Minerals Beyond Gorgeous kit yet?  Do you plan on picking it up?

Stila Friday Happy Hour – Free Shipping & Free Lip Glaze

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 29, 2010

It’s Friday!  That means it’s time for Stila’s Friday Happy Hour.  This week, Stila is offering Free Shipping and a Free Lip Glaze with any purchase throughout the day on StilaCosmetics.com.  You have your choice of 3 Lip Glaze shades:  Fruit Punch, Sugar Plum, or Brown Sugar.  The coupon / promo codes for the freebies are FRUITPUNCH, SUGARPLUM, or BROWNSUGAR.  Obviously, use the code that corresponds to the shade of Lip Glaze you would like.

These shades are 3 of Stila’s most popular Lip Glaze shades.  I have multiples of all 3.  I think my favorite of the 3 would have to be Sugar Plum.  It is a very sheer shade and doesn’t offer much color, but it does a great job of enhancing the look of your lips.  If you’re having trouble deciding on a shade, rest assured that you can’t go wrong with any of the shades offered.

Stila has recently added their Holiday Gift Guide section to their site.  Truthfully, I’m disappointed in some of the gifts they have put together as they are older products that they have left over from their warehouse sale.  Even worse, the prices are much higher than they were during the sale.  I love Stila, but this move kind of feels like a rip off.

That being said, there are still a bunch of items in the Holiday Gift Guide section that I would consider picking up both for me as well as for gifts.  The Go For The Shimmer gift set caught my eye.  This set features a full-sized Mango Crush Lip & Cheek Stain, a full-sized Pearl Shimmer Gloss – South Sea Coral, and a full-sized Lip Liner – Contour no. 19 all housed in a Gold Clutch.  It’s priced at only $15!  That price is amazing for full-sized products.  It has a value of $63.  Add this to the great Secret Santa gifts list.

Stila’s Friday Happy Hour offers are good thru today, October 29th or until items run out.  Happy Shopping!

Will you be picking up anything to take advantage of Stila’s Friday Happy Hour offer?  If so, what did you snag?

Free Lip Item With Any Purchase At Bath & Body Works

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 29, 2010

Bath & Body Works just released a brand spanking new printable coupon and it’s a goodie. Now thru October 31st, 2010, get a FREE lip item with any purchase in-store at Bath & Body Works. And, unlike the last free lip item coupon, this coupon is good at BathAndBodyWorks.com.  Use coupon / promo code FREELIP at checkout.  There isn’t much time to use this coupon as it’s only good thru Sunday.

Bath & Body Works has released their Holiday 2010 lip glosses.  To go with their body line, BBW has new Liplicious lip glosses in Vanilla Bean Noel, Twisted Peppermint, Winter Candy Apple, and Snowkissed Berry.

C.O. Bigelow also has some new holiday flavored Mentha Lip Shines. These holiday flavors include Spiced Latte, Holiday Shortbread, Warm Apple Cider, and Butterscotch Pudding. I am a huge fan of the original C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shines, but the only scent I am interested from the new holiday line is the Holiday Shortbread. I am not a fan of lattes or butterscotch and while I love candles that smell like apple cider, I am not a fan of the taste of it.

The Liplicious holiday flavors are priced at $7 each while the C.O. Bigelow holiday flavored Mentha Lip Shines are priced at $7.50 each. Currently, BBW is having their Buy 2, Get 1 Free Lip Favorites.

I used the last free lip item coupon to pick up the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine in Holiday Shortbread and the Liplicious lip gloss in Twisted Peppermint.  I love them both and am torn over whether I should use this new coupon to pick up another one of these great flavors or if I should try another one.

Will you be picking up any of the Holiday 2010 lip products from Bath & Body Works? Which flavor is your favorite?

MAC A Tartan Tale Holiday Collection Available Now

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 26, 2010

Hey guys.  It’s late, but I just wanted to let you all know that the MAC A Tartan Tale Holiday Collection is available NOW on MACcosmetics.com. It’s not supposed to be available at MAC counters until October 28th.  While I love the patterned eye shadows in this collection, nothing else really excites me too much.  A lot of the colors are re-releases that I’m not too interested in.  My wallet is really happy to hear that!

How about you?  Is there anything from the A Tartan Tale collection that you’re dying to get your hands on?
