Smashbox Create Your Own Kit

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on February 8, 2011

I know one of the common complaints among beauty kit purchasers is the fact that many kits feature at least one item you don’t want or won’t use or have too many of.  Now, I know at lot of us still pick up these kits due to the fact that it’s still a great deal for the items you will use.  I’m happy to see that more cosmetics companies are hopping on the create-your-own kit bandwagon.  You may recall that I took advantage of the Bare Escentuals create-your-own kit during the holiday season to pick up 3 of the High Shine eye shadows for about the cost of 2.  Smashbox is the latest cosmetics company to offer a Create Your Own Kit.

This week only, you can Create Your Own Kit on  You start with a gold make-up bag and then select three items to fill it up with.  You can choose any combination of Eye Shadow Trios, Blush Rush blushes, and Lip Enhancing Glosses.  You can pick one of each or 3 shadow trios or 2 blushes and a lip gloss and so on.  Depending on the combo of products you go with, the kit has a value of up to $84.

If you are a fan of particular shades from Smashbox, this is a great opportunity to get exactly what you want at a pretty great discount.

Are you a fan of the create-your-own-kit idea?

New Smashbox Violet Vixen Kit

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on January 24, 2011

While the holiday season is usually the time of year that cosmetics companies go all out with amazing kits and palettes, it seems like a lot of companies are trying to offer similar products during the rest of the year.  To that I say, bring it on!  With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, a lot of companies are releasing items to help make your irresistible to your Valentine!  Smashbox has just released a new kit perfect for the occasion:  the Violet Vixen Kit.

The Violet Vixen kit features Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Tempt, an Eye Shadow Quad in Charm (a quad of 4 gorgeous purple shades), a Lip Enhancing Gloss in Spellbound (a peachy-pink), and a deluxe sample of Lash DNA Mascara.

It should be of no surprise that I am loving the eye shadow quad.  Give me one purple eye shadow and I’m happy, give me 4 and I’m over the moon (although, one shade is more of a gray while the other is a bone shade, but they all tie together so well!).

Has anyone tried the Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara before?  I haven’t tried it yet.  I have to be honest, I’ve been rather turned off from Smashbox mascaras ever since I tried the Bionic Mascara.  Talk about a runny mess.  I don’t think I truly experienced “racoon eyes” until I wore Bionic.  Needless to say, I haven’t been excited to test out another Smashbox mascara since then.

The peachy-pink Spellbound lip gloss looks like the perfect shade of this kit.  Is it me or do kits often times feature bold glosses that don’t necessarily compliment the rest of the look?  The beauty rule (even though I don’t always follow it) is toned down lips when wearing a more dramatic eye.  With this kit, you can follow that rule!

The Violet Vixen Kit is new and only available at It’s priced at $42 with a value of $89.

Are you liking the vibe from the Violet Vixen Kit?  Or are you suffering from purple overload?

Smashbox Get Sexy Halloween Kit Only $10

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on November 2, 2010

If you recall, I posted about the Smashbox Get Sexy Halloween Kit a few weeks ago. I thought it was a deal at $25, but now it’s on sale for only $10!  Buy it before the end of the Sephora Friends & Family Sale and get it for only $8 (after saving 20% by using coupon code FF2010).

The Smashbox Get Sexy Halloween Kit features a Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Midnight Black, an Eye Shadow in Envy, a set of False Eye Lashes, Eye Lash Glue, and a Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pout.

The description states that this kit includes everything you would need to create “your favorite sexy Halloween looks.” I don’t know if I would go that far, but there’s some pretty great stuff in this kit. I am a big fan of the Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner. That alone would be $22 and here you’re getting everything for $10 (or $8 if during the Friends & Family Sale).

The Smashbox Get Sexy Halloween Kit is a limited edition kit and is only available while supplies last.

What do you think of the Get Sexy Halloween Kit? Would you get it for Halloween or just for your everyday use?

Recap Of The Smashbox 12th Anniversary Shows

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 21, 2010

So I have to say, I was pretty let down with the Smashbox 12th Anniversary shows on QVC today. I had high hopes of picking up at least one of the two new lip gloss duos (either the Smashbox Pro High Luster Gloss duo or the Smashbox Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss duo) but didn’t end up picking up either one.

Did you see the presentations for either of the gloss duos?  While they were nice, they weren’t really that special.  The Mega Gloss seemed to just be a big bottle of gloss with a big applicator.  The Pro High Luster Gloss was nice, but I didn’t think it was that shiney, shimmery, lustery, etc.  Also, all of the glosses were more opaque than I was expecting.  I tend to go for more sheer, shimmery glosses.

Clearly, the star of the Smashbox Anniversary shows was the Smashbox Studio To Go Limited Edition Mega Palette. It went on to waitlist availability during the first show.

I did pick up one thing from Smashbox:  the One Time Only Value yesterday, Waterproof Shadow Liner 3-piece collection with brush. It was priced under $40 so I obviously had to get it.  I’m a big fan of the Smashbox Waterproof Shadow Liners.  I’m happy with my purchase, but it’s not one that I anticipated making.

The good thing is that since I didn’t pick up either of the gloss duos from Smashbox, I had more money to spend on the Sephora Friends & Family Sale.

Did you pick up anything during the Smashbox 12th Anniversary shows?

Smashbox Pro High Luster Gloss Duo

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 19, 2010

In addition to the Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo, Smashbox is also bringing the brand new Pro High Luster Gloss Duo to QVC to celebrate their 12th anniversary.  The Pro High Luster Gloss combines pure color pigment, clear gloss, and luster to give you a very pigmented gloss packed full of luster.

You have your choice of 2 color duos in the Pro High Luster Gloss Duo.  Set 1 contains Brilliant (shimmery coral peach) and Luster (shimmery nude).  Set 2 contains Dazzle (shimmery hot pink) and Gleam (shimmery mauve).

The Pro High Luster Gloss features a silicone applicator that is supposed to allow for precise application.  It’s hard to be able to tell much from looking at the picture, but I am curious as to what this silicone tip does.

I’m on the fence about the Smashbox Pro High Luster Gloss Duo.  The pictures do not jump out at me and make me immediately want to pick up the phone and order.  I’m curious to see the on-air presentation for this product.

My wallet is telling me only one lipgloss duo is to be picked up from the Smashbox Anniversary show.  Right now, I’m leaning towards the Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo.  I’ll be tuning in to see the presentations for both gloss duos and make up my mind then.

Smashbox Pro High Luster Gloss is new and currently only available at QVC.  The duos are Anniversary Priced at $23.54 with a QVC original price of $28.50.  Although the anniversary shows don’t kick off until tomorrow, the Smashbox Pro High Luster Gloss Duo is already available for purchase.

Do you prefer the Smashbox Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss or the Smashbox Pro High Luster Gloss?  Will you be picking up either of the duos?

Smashbox Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 18, 2010

Of all of the new and exclusives that Smashbox will be offering on QVC for their 12th anniversary, I am most interested in the Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo.  The new gloss promises to drench lips in color and shine in one coat.  Apparently, this gloss features a new cushy applicator that houses a “pocket” of gloss.  Looking at the picture of the gloss and applicator, it appears that the applicator is kind of shaped to hug the contours of your lips.  It reminds me of the applicator on the Covergirl Shineblast lip gloss I reviewed for BzzAgent a few months ago. If you recall, I loved the lip hugging applicator for that gloss.

You receive 2 shades with this lip gloss duo.  Celebrity is a shimmery pink nude while Stardom is a creamy rosebud pink.  Both shades look very pretty and look like they would work with a variety of skintones.

The Smashbox Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo will be exclusive to QVC for right now.  It is Anniversary Priced at $23.14 with an original QVC price of $28.  You don’t have to wait for the 12th anniversary shows on Wednesday and Thursday because the Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo is already available for purchase on

Are you interested in checking out the Smashbox Lip Enhancing Mega Gloss Duo?  Or do you have way too many glosses and will have to pass?

Smashbox Studio To Go Limited Edition Mega Palette

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 18, 2010

***EDITED TO ADD***  This palette is now on 2 Easy Pays!

A few weeks ago I posted about some of Smashbox Holiday 2010 kits, including the Smashbox Eye Wish Palette.  Judging by the amount of visitors that have found their way to this blog as a result of searching for the Eye Wish Palette it is clearly a palette that is getting a lot of peoples’ attention.  Well, if you like the Eye Wish Palette, you are going to love the Smashbox Studio To Go Limited Edition Mega Palette.  The Mega Palette is a new palette making an appearance to celebrate the 12th Anniversary of Smashbox Cosmetics on QVC.

The Smashbox Studio To Go Limited Edition Mega Palette goes beyond the Eye Wish Palette in that it isn’t just a palette about the eyes.  The Mega Palette has almost everything you would need to create a whole look.  It’s packed with 64 eye shadows, 8 cream eye liners, 6 brow powders and brow wax, 8 lip glosses, 2 blushes, 3 highlighters, and 4 brushes for application.

Now, compared to the Eye Wish Palette, the pan sizes of the Mega Palette are smaller.  But you get a ton more shades with the Mega Palette than you do with the Eye Wish Palette.  Of course, a lot of the shades offered in the Mega Palette are neutral nudes and beiges.  If you are on beige and nude overload then this might be a no-go for you.

Unlike the Eye Wish Palette, I like the fact that the Mega Palette contains most of the things you would need to create a complete look.  I say most because things like concealer, foundation, and mascara are missing.

I love that brow color and brow wax are included in the Mega Palette.  I use Smashbox Brow Tech for my brows every time I apply make-up.  I don’t have thinning brows or anything like that, but it’s amazing what a difference using brow color/wax has on your entire look.  It really does just kind of give you a more pulled together look.

The Smashbox Eye Wish Palette is priced at $45.  The Smashbox Studio To Go Limited Edition Mega Palette is Anniversary Priced at $48.76 (down from $59).  So with the Anniversary Pricing, the prices of the two palettes are pretty close.

Ultimately, I think that both palettes are great palettes.  It all comes down to what you’re looking for.  If you’re all about the eyes and love the shades in the Eye Wish Palette and want the bigger pans of shadow, then Eye Wish is for you.  If you’re looking for a palette to create a complete look and like the option of having a wide range of colors to choose from then the Mega Palette is for you.  And either one of these palettes would make a great Christmas gift for any Smashbox girl!

What do you guys think?  Are you all about the Eye Wish Palette or all about the Mega Palette?

Smashbox Cosmetics 12th Anniversary On QVC

Posted by anotherbeautyblogger on October 18, 2010

Can you believe that Smashbox has been on QVC for 12 years already?  Believe it or not, I wasn’t even old enough to have a credit card when Smashbox first appeared on QVC.  Luckily, I have a very nice Mom who was willing to place the order for me.  To celebrate their anniversary, Smashbox will have a couple of shows with some new items and special pricing.  Tune into QVC Wednesday, October 20th at 11 p.m. eastern time and Thursday, October 21st at 2 a.m., 11 a.m., and 9 p.m. eastern time to see what Smashbox has to offer.

The good news is that some of these anniversary items are already available for purchase on  I’m going to highlight a few of the items in separate posts later today.  If you are a Smashbox girl, you will definitely want to stay tunned!
